The ''Wildfire'' was one of three slave ships seized by the United States Navy and returned to Key West in 1860. There were nearly 1,400 Africans aboard. They were place in former slave pens, before being shipped to Liberia. The high cost of keeping the slaves in Key West led to the passage of
