WikiMedicine

Hi

I'm contacting you because, as a participant at Wikiproject Medicine, you may be interested in a new multinational non-profit organization we're forming at m:Wikimedia Medicine. Even if you don't want to be actively involved, any ideas you may have about our structure and aims would be very welcome on the project's talk page.

Our purpose is to help improve the range and quality of free online medical content, and we'll be working with like-minded organizations, such as the World Health Organization, professional and scholarly societies, medical schools, governments and NGOs - including Translators Without Borders.

Hope to see you there! --Anthonyhcole (talk) 07:12, 9 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Also I sent you an email last week perhaps. Did you get it? Thanks. Biosthmors (talk) 05:12, 21 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

hey

Hi Michael - I think we may have met in person at some point, although I am horrible at names and not too sure. I'd love to help out with your upcoming UCSF elective in any way I can. If you'll be in the bay area at that point, would you be available to meet up and chat on the 17th of this month or so about it? (I can come to you in the city.) I'm not the most experienced person as far as medical editing goes, but have a decent grasp on most of the problems classes working in these areas have run in to in the past, and have a good chunk of experience facilitating educational assignments in general. Given the problems that a lot of medrs classes have run in to in the past, I'd absolutely love to help make sure we have a successful local one :) Kevin Gorman (talk) 06:17, 11 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Where are we at?

Hey Michael. Where are we at with the launch of the elective this spring? Do we have potential candidates lined up?

Speedy deletion nomination of Open mHealth

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Open mHealth requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that your page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. — PinkAmpers&(Je vous invite à me parler) 20:21, 5 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

It does not matter if you are affiliated with the organization as you claimed on the deleted article's talk page, or if you have been given permission to re-post copyrighted content. The point is, Wikipedia does not have permission to re-publish copyrighted content, and that permission is not granted by virtue of some random user like you or me asserting that such permission exists. Wikipedia needs communication through official verifiable channels that permission is granted to re-publish that content. See Wikipedia:Declaration of consent for all enquiries for further information. ~Amatulić (talk) 20:40, 5 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes you will need a release through the WP:OTRS process were those who own the copyright agree to release it under a CC BY SA license. Let me know when you have it and I will restore the page in question. Also if you feel that you have paraphrased sufficiently I can restore as well. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (if I write on your page reply on mine) 20:42, 5 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi there. Sorry I had to do this. Reuse of content is a very confusing area, and I know that having once made the mistake myself of using material copyrighted to a group affiliated with my family. If you say that you've been permission to reuse this material, I believe you, but I hope you understand why we ask for official verification; the matter of allowing reuse for any and all purposes – required of all contributions to Wikipedia – confuses things a bit more. I hope this hasn't been too much of a bother, and I encourage you to take Doc James up on his offer if you can get OTRS verification. — PinkAmpers&(Je vous invite à me parler) 12:57, 6 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

The Wikipedia Library now offering accounts from Cochrane Collaboration (sign up!)

The Wikipedia Library gets Wikipedia editors free access to reliable sources that are behind paywalls. Because you are signed on as a medical editor, I thought you'd want to know about our most recent donation from Cochrane Collaboration.

  • Cochrane Collaboration is an independent medical nonprofit organization that conducts systematic reviews of randomized controlled trials of health-care interventions, which it then publishes in the Cochrane Library.
  • Cochrane has generously agreed to give free, full-access accounts to 100 medical editors. Individual access would otherwise cost between $300 and $800 per account.
  • If you are still active as a medical editor, come and sign up :)
