A tag has been placed on :Engraved (band) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding <code>hangon</code> to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the article or have a copy emailed to you. <!-- Template:Db-band-notice --> <!-- Template:Db-csd-notice-custom --> <b><font color="darkorange">TN</font>‑<fontspan colorstyle="midnightbluecolor:darkorange;">TN<big/span>]]‑X</bigspan style="color:midnightblue; font-size:larger;">X</fontspan>]]-<font color="red"><span style="color:red;">Man</fontspan>]]</b> 18:44, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

:::It did look that way, but I saw that Alansohn is a member of the Article Rescue Squad, and thus removed the tag to give him and the editor a chance to improve and/or userfy the material. On Saturday December 3, 2016, in conjunction with a global campaign, the Guggenheim will host its fifth Wikipedia edit-a-thon—or, <big>#guggathon</big>—to enhance Wikipedia's coverage of modern and contemporary artists from Greater China. The event will cap off Wikipedia Asian Month, an online campaign dedicated to augmenting Asian content on Wikipedia throughout November.

New and experienced editors are welcome. == better coverage of Union County Parks and nature ==

Hi Alan- any thoughts on best way to corral info on Union County Parks and historic sites? Unlike, say, Essex and Morris, it is very hard to find all such info on here. There is an organization called Friends of Rahway River Parkway that is working to gather information for public- is wikipedia useful for that? Oldyorkey (talk) 13:42, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
*Oldyorkey, do you realize that your old Oldyorke account has been blocked and do you understand why? I'd like to help -- and I have -- but there are policies about copyrights that must be observed. Alansohn (talk) 19:08, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

Cranford, New Jersey
You are rather critical of the removal at Cranford, New Jersey as block evasion. In fact Oldyorke was blocked for repeated copyright violations (see: User talk:Oldyorke) but User:Oldyorkey continued with that. And then there was Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Oldyorke confirming the sock and the block evasion. <span style="border:1px solid green; padding:0 2px"><span style="font-family:'Old English Text MT',serif;color:green">The&nbsp;Banner</span>&nbsp;<i style="color:maroon">talk</i></span> 17:24, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
:The Banner, Oldyorke / Oldyorkey is an editor who is trying to improve articles who doesn't understand copyright policy. Anal retentive admins abusing their authority to impose blocks certainly doesn't solve a problem; it just gets rid of a potentially productive editor. The failure of multiple admins to understand this is a big part of Wikipedia's failure to bring in new editors. Alansohn (talk) 17:28, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
::Nasty remarks towards admins and towards me do not show a positive attitude in the best interest of the encyclopaedia, but a battleground mentality. Protecting guys with copyvio is a dangerous hobby. <span style="border:1px solid green; padding:0 2px"><span style="font-family:'Old English Text MT',serif;color:green">The&nbsp;Banner</span>&nbsp;<i style="color:maroon">talk</i></span> 20:34, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
:::The Banner, again, and as you seem to refuse to understand, Oldyorke / Oldyorkey is an editor who is trying to improve articles who doesn't understand copyright policy. It is anal retentive rule pushers who don't understand or pay attention to circumstances who are destroying Wikipedia. You have made more than 60,000 edits and have been unable and unwilling to comply with Wikipedia policy, but you've decided that an editor with 250-300 total edits, with no understanding of Wikipedia policy, is a puppetmaster whose sourced edits needed to be destroyed. If you don't like the characterization of your disruption, I really don't care. Alansohn (talk) 20:40, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
::::You do not seem to understand that fiddling around and protecting copyvio can have serious consequences for your editing rights. And a WP:BATTLEFIELD-mentality is certainly not helpful. To make is clear: this is a friendly warning. <span style="border:1px solid green; padding:0 2px"><span style="font-family:'Old English Text MT',serif;color:green">The&nbsp;Banner</span>&nbsp;<i style="color:maroon">talk</i></span> 20:45, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
:::::The Banner, cut out the smarmy patronizing attitude. While I've been trying to correct these edits and educate the editor in proper Wikipedia policy, reaching out to the editor's talk page to provide helpful information, you've created a battleground where you're the judge, jury and executioner. If you are unable to help, find another hobby. Alansohn (talk) 20:49, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

Hello everyone, and welcome to the December 2016 GOCE newsletter. We had an October newsletter all set to go, but it looks like we never pushed the button to deliver it, so this one contains a few months of updates. We have been busy and successful!

>>> Sign up for the December Blitz! <<<

Coordinator elections for the first half of 2017: Nominations are open for election of Coordinators for the first half of 2017. Please visit the election page to nominate yourself or another editor, and then return after December 15 to vote. Thanks for participating!

September Drive: The September drive was fruitful. We set out to remove July through October 2015 from our backlog (an ambitious 269 articles), and by the end of the month, we had cut that pile of oldest articles to just 83. We reduced our overall backlog by 97 articles, even with new copyedit tags being added to articles every day. We also handled 75% of the remaining Requests from August 2016. Overall, 19 editors recorded copy edits to 233 articles (over 378,000 words).

October Blitz: this one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 16 through 22 October; the theme was Requests, since the backlog was getting a bit long. Of the 16 editors who signed up, 10 editors completed 29 requests. Barnstars and rollover totals are located here. Thanks to all editors who took part.

November Drive: The November drive was a record-breaker! We set out to remove September through December 2015 from our backlog (239 articles), and by the end of the month, we had cut that pile of old articles to just 66, eliminating the two oldest months! We reduced our overall backlog by 523 articles, to a new record low of 1,414 articles, even with new tags being added to articles every day, which means we removed copy-editing tags from over 800 articles. We also handled all of the remaining Requests from October 2016. Officially, 14 editors recorded copy edits to 200 articles (over 312,000 words), but over 600 articles, usually quick fixes and short articles, were not recorded on the drive page.

Housekeeping note: we do not send a newsletter before every drive or blitz. To have a better chance of knowing when the next event will start, add the GOCE's message box to your Watchlist.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Jonesey95, Corinne and Tdslk.

Your false positive report
Why did you report http://press.co.burlington.nj.us/PRESS/EResults/ ?—cyber<span style="color:red">power<small><span style="color:red">Merry Christmas:Unknown</small> 01:07, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
:The link I typed was this one, which I tested and then pasted directly into the form, just as I did onto this page. I have dealt with hundreds upon hundreds of false reports from IAB, cleaning up the little messes one after the other. Some of them are legitimate, but a disturbingly high number are working links. I often look at the dozens of articles that need cleanup related to IAB and say that I should just revert them all as useless busy work. Now I'm the one getting complaints that the link I had just tested didn't work. Please create a link that allows the false positive reports to be made directly from the affected article, so that I and other editors don;t have to do your work for you. Alansohn (talk) 03:40, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
::You submitted two links. One is actually dead, which I mentioned above, and the other got reset in the DB. As for on the spot reporting, it's coming, but still needs time. It requires the user to be logged on to the interface so it's a bit tricky to implement. I'm open to ideas on how the on the spot link should work.—cyber<span style="color:red">power<small><span style="color:red">Merry Christmas:Unknown</small> 04:03, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
:::I submitted two different links, both of which are working. If you tell me that http://press.co.burlington.nj.us/PRESS/EResults//2013/2013%20General%20Summary.pdf is dead, there is something seriously screwed up with your system. Alansohn (talk) 04:05, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
::::Cyberpower678, for example, I just typed in http://press.co.burlington.nj.us/PRESS/EResults//2014/2014%20General%20Summary.pdf, which your link truncates to http://press.co.burlington.nj.us/PRESS/EResults/. The link in the article works, as does the link I type; your truncated link doesn't work. Same with http://press.co.burlington.nj.us/PRESS/EResults//2012/2012%20General%20Election%20Summary.pdf, which also works. Alansohn (talk) 04:10, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
:::::Okay so there's a bug with IABot, that seems to be truncating the URL for some reason. I have filters and validations in place to help clean the URL up and filter out invalid characters. It might be catching something it shouldn't. This let's the user conveniently, sloppily copy and paste an entire URL with bits and pieces of the surrounding stuff into the form and it extracts the URL.—cyber<span style="color:red">power<small><span style="color:red">Merry Christmas:Unknown</small> 04:22, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
:::::::Cyberpower678, I looked at the link I typed in and the one you reported back. It looks like the link http://press.co.burlington.nj.us/PRESS/EResults//2014/2014%20General%20Summary.pdf includes a slash-slash where the link gets truncated. Cold that be the problem? Alansohn (talk) 04:26, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
::::::::It probably it is, and it should be a straightforward fix since it uses Regex to validate. I saw the other URL you just reported, and it looks like the bot is blacklisted from that site. Whenever a URL with the response "NO RESPONSE FROM SERVER" gets reported, it likely means it's because Labs has been blacklisted for that site. I'm working on developing workarounds for that. The bot's newest version 1.3 is going to be a big release.—cyber<span style="color:red">power<small><span style="color:red">Merry Christmas:Unknown</small> 04:48, 11 December 2016 (UTC)

WikiCup December newsletter: WikiCup 2017
On 1 January 2017, WikiCup 2017 (the 10th Annual WikiCup) will begin. This year we are trying something a little different – monetary prizes.

For the WC2017 the prizes will be as follows (amounts are based in US$ and will be awarded in the form of an online Amazon gift certificate):
*First place – $200
*Second & Third place – $50 each
*Category prizes – $25 per category (which will be limited to FA, FL, FP, GA, and DYK for 2017). Winning a category prize does not require making it to the final round.

<small>Note: Monetary prizes are a one-year experiment for 2017 and may or may not be continued in the future. In order to be eligible to receive any of the prizes above, the competing Wikipedia account must have a valid/active email address.</small>
After two years as a WikiCup judge, Figureskatingfan is stepping down. We thank her for her contributions as a WikiCup judge. We are pleased to announce that our newest judge is two-time WikiCup champion Cwmhiraeth.

The judges for the 2017 WikiCup are Godot13, Cwmhiraeth, and Sturmvogel 66.

Signups are open now and will remain open until 5 February 2017. You can sign up here.

Nice add to this article. Beyond My Ken (talk) 23:55, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
:Beyond My Ken, and a nice article creation on your part. Just fortunate that I'm familiar with the historic sources available on this side of the Hudson. Alansohn (talk) 00:10, 23 December 2016 (UTC)
::Thanks. I just happened to be in that area some months ago and took pictures of the church. When I saw it was on the NRHP but didn't have an article, I thought, "Why not?". Beyond My Ken (talk) 01:11, 23 December 2016 (UTC)
May I impose on our long-standing - albeit acrimonious -- relationship to ask you a question? (If not, please feer free to ignore it.) What is the explanation for the many multiple Bergen County NRHP listings being related to the Ackerman, Ackerson/Eckerson, Banta, Berdan, Blackledge, Blanch, Blauvelt, Bogert, Brinkerhoff, Cadmus, Cooper, Debaun, Demarest, Durie, Haring, Huyler, Hopper, Lydecker, Terhune, Van Houten, Van Winkle, Vandelinda, Vanderbeck, Westervelt, Wortendyke and Zabriske families. It almost seems like at some point they were the only residents of the county, presumably on large farms. Is that the case, to your knowledge? Beyond My Ken (talk) 06:07, 23 December 2016 (UTC)
*While Bergen County is the state's most-populous county today, with 900,000 residents, there were only 12,000 residents back at the first U.S. census in 1790. The early Dutch and English settlers in northeastern New Jersey prospered and their families grew with them. You see many of these same names not only on houses, but even on street signs and in names of politicians. Alansohn (talk) 18:23, 23 December 2016 (UTC)

This material has been repeatedly removed from this article and the article has in the past been protected because of the repeated addition of this material. It simply does not meet the requirements for listing in a notable alumni section. A notable group or TV show is not an alumnus. The explanation for rejecting this material has been explained on the article's talk page. Your justification of WP:PRESERVE has absolutely no validity. Meters (talk) 22:03, 1 January 2017 (UTC)
:Meters, WP:PRESERVE is policy. Your claim that groups can;t be listed is just that; a claim. I've dealt with that claim on the talk page and the onus is on you to demonstrate that encyclopedic content about a group of alumni should be removed simply because you feel it shouldn't be in the article. Alansohn (talk) 04:27, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
::Replied on the article's talk page. A group does not meet the inclusion criterion of being an alumnus. There is no way to fix that, so WP:PRESERVE is not applicable. Meters (talk) 05:20, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

I was wondering whether the New Jersey Japanese School should be included the Bergen County school template even though it's 1-9. I've been making school templates across the U.S. and I've started including notable private schools even if they're middle schools sometimes.
