Yellowhead (electoral district)

Yellowhead is a federal electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that has been represented in the Canadian House of Commons since 1979. The district is in west-central Alberta, and represents the counties of Yellowhead, Woodlands, Lac Ste. Anne, Barrhead, the improvement districts No. 9 (Willmore) and No. 12 (Jasper), the special municipality of Jasper and parts of Greenview, Brazeau, Parkland and Clearwater.

History

The electoral district was created in 1976 from Rocky Mountain, Athabasca, Edmonton West, Pembina, and Wetaskiwin ridings.

Its most high-profile MP has been Joe Clark, who was Prime Minister 1979-80.

Current Member of Parliament

Its Member of Parliament is Rob Merrifield, a former farmer. He was first elected to Parliament in the 2000 election. He is a member of the Conservative Party of Canada. In the last parliamentary session, he served as vice-chair of the Standing Committee on Health.
