From Middle French académie, from Latin acadēmīa, from Ancient Greek Ἀκαδημία (Akadēmía), a grove of trees and gymnasium outside of Athens where Plato taught; from the name of the supposed former owner of that estate, the Attic hero Akademos. Compare academe, academia, Akademeia.

      I was at the Royal Military Academy in Bandung for two years. But the thing is, of course, that one cannot learn at a royal academy how to build up an army in a revolutionary situation. I did think that through somewhat, more or less by reading, a bit later, during the Japanese occupation.
