agripper
French
editEtymology
editInherited from Middle French [Term?], from Old French agriper (“to snatch”), from Frankish *angrīpan (“to seize”), from Proto-Germanic *ana- (“on-”) + *grīpaną (“to take, seize”), from Proto-Indo-European *gʰrebʰ- (“to take, seize, rake”). Cognate with Middle Dutch aengrīpen (“to grasp, seize”), Old High German anagrīfan (“to touch, grasp”), Old English grīpan (“to seize, snatch, take, apprehend”). More at grip.
