Perhaps from Old Dutch *rakis, itself of uncertain origin and with no known cognates in Germanic.[1] Alternatively, from Old Dutch *rakiza, rakinza (buoy, chain), from Old High German rahhinza, rahhenza, rachenza (neck-chain, hand-chain, fetter), from Proto-West Germanic *rakintā, from Proto-Germanic *rakintǭ (fetter, chain).
