Perhaps from Old Dutch *rakis, itself of uncertain origin and with no known cognates in Germanic.[1] Alternatively, from Old Dutch *rakiza, rakinza (“buoy, chain”), from Old High German rahhinza, rahhenza, rachenza (“neck-chain, hand-chain, fetter”), from Proto-West Germanic *rakintā, from Proto-Germanic *rakintǭ (“fetter, chain”).
