It does feel awkward but losing a job is not something to be embarrassed about. This is exactly the time to establish new connections or reignite some that were forgotten.

Maintain a normal life and pay close attention to mental wellness. A layoff is not a catastrophe. What goes down comes up too. I was in this situation once when life seemed uncertain. With a family in tow and bills to pay it was tough times. I continued a normal life with a close watch on my finances but without making super drastic cuts in necessities. I kept up with my physical workouts. That along with my efforts to keep myself mentally strong worked beautifully.
