Best of design and publishing
If you've tried to record an entry in any other accounting app, you were probably bogged down by having to navigate to invoice entry page and then having to fill out a myriad of fields.
In Frappe Books that isn't the case, we took a leaf from developer tools and added fuzzy searching that can be triggered by a shortcut.
With this, irrespective of where you are in the software, you can press down Ctrl-k and type in "create sales" or just a subset of those letters and then press the Enter key to reach the invoice creation form.
Filling out the form is equally fast as you Tab your way through fields you want to fill, the rest Frappe Books will fill out for you as you go along.
We have opinions, but so do you!
When building Frappe Books, we wanted to bestow upon the users a high degree of customizability. The kind of liberties we take with our software, we wanted the users to take with their invoices.
So instead of offering a couple of invoice templates like most accounting apps, we builtin an extremely powerful Template Builder. Now, with some common HTML knowledge you can make your invoices look exactly how you want it to look.
And since we have opinions on how your invoices should look, we bundled in a handful of templates. You can either use these out of the box or as a starting point to build your own custom templates.
A prudent person peruses their P&L
Awful alliteration aside, Frappe Books allows you to be prudent with your business. Sure, you'll keep running your business selling goods, buying assets, but how has your business really been doing?
Frappe Books comes with myriad of accounting reports that will help you keep track of various aspects of your business.
If you want to track your profits, you have the Profit and Loss report at your service. If you want to what transactions included a specific item, you have the General Ledger. If you want to keep track of your cash flow, the Balance Sheet is at your beck and call.
Always yours and with you
Frappe Books is desktop first. This is not an opaque marketing term. It means that it lives and functions on your computer. The data you enter into Frappe Books too resides on your computer. Because of this, you do not need an internet connection to run Frappe Books.
We don't beam your data into the cloud under the guise of safe keeping. All your data is contained in a single SQLite database file, if you make copies of it you have backed up your data.
You trust us not to pull the rug from under you, and we trust that you will keep your data safe.
The Story of Books
"It started out as an experiment, and it still kind of is an experiment.
The idea was, you have a computer perfectly capable of running software, why pay someone else to do it?
Of course, the premise of a regular SaaS company runs in the opposite direction, we have perfectly capable computers, why not pay us to run your software, and this just feels kind of stupid for a lot of personal software that people use.
But this stupidity is rarely spoken of because it allows a SaaS company to charge its users a subscription fee. An abhorrent practice for software that can run locally.
So in a flash of post-hoc sensibility we decided to build Frappe Books. A software that from a capitalistic perspective seems rather daft cause it makes us no money, but from a user perspective, seems reasonable, because it runs locally and doesn't come with a subscription fee."
