She worked for many years in India. In 1979 she established the Women and Development programme at the Institute of Social Studies in [[The Hague]], Netherlands. One of her main concerns is the development of an alternative approach in methodology and in economics. 1963年から1968年まで、インドのゲーテインスティテュートで講師として勤務し、実地調査を行った[4]。
1969年に帰国し、ドイツ・フェミニズムの代表的な担い手の一人となる。
1973年、『インド女性と家父長制』を発表。「教育を受けたインド女性たちの役割葛藤」をテーマに博士号を取得するためケルン大学に所属し、同じゼミナールでクラウディア・フォン・ヴェールホフと出会った[5]。
1976年、ヴェールホフとともに暴力を受けた女性のための「女性の家」を設立、その後も女性学関連の雑誌を創刊するなど、様々な女性運動を組織した[5]。
