- Previous renames: current user, target user. Queue: open req, closed req
- Stewards/Global renamers: usurp user, rename user
- Reason: I like to use a better name for me. I request it because I'm not satisfacted to use my current name, and I like the new name that i'm requesting. I guess this process need to be supervised by a sysadmin in Phabricator because I have more than 50000 edits (120k in total) globally. So, I will be pleased with my new name and I wait for the supervision. If there are problems about this, tell me about it. Thanks.

- Reason: I would like to have my bot account renamed. This account is used - among other things - for welcoming new users to LT Wiki and in a few cases they didn't particularly like "homo" part. --Homo ergaster (talk) 19:32, 2 February 2018 (UTC) --Homobot (talk) 19:33, 2 February 2018 (UTC)

- It is technically possible, but I doubt our sysadmins want to monitor the bot getting renamed. If this was a user account, it would be a different story, though we could always file a phab ticket and see if they want to allow it.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 04:41, 3 February 2018 (UTC)

- Reason: Hi folks, my user name was made by an article which I had written. Other Wiki users were confused between that article and me, therefore I chose another fictional name. Thank you for changing it.
- @בריאן: what is the reason of Blocked indefinitely? Is it related to the user name? --Alaa :)..! 02:31, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
- May I reply? I was drawn into a discussion which was about me, not about my user name. Other users drove it to my name. As a result, I went to undefined holiday during the discussion, because other users used wrong names of mine. My vacation made the decision, in spite of the discussion was not opened correctly. I have to add that this group of users tries now to omit another user, less than a week after they omitted me. Thus I decided to change my user name, to avoid misleading it by other users. - Stewards/Global renamers: usurp user, rename user
- Reason: I first filed a rename request through Special:GlobalRenameRequest (I don't want to tell the reason here, but it is a reasonable one), and I got the following reply:
The request to rename "W. Chan 2010" to "W314159265358979323" could not be completed.
The reason provided was: "Okay, but numbers as nickname are not allowed. Please pick another name.".

I believed that there was a problem with this reply as apparently my new name is not only numbers, so I filed another request through the same page and stated my concerns, and I got a similar reply:
The request to rename "W. Chan 2010" to "W314159265358979323" could not be completed.
The reason provided was: "Okay, but one letter and numbers as nickname are not allowed. Please pick another name. ".

I wondered, what does "not allowed" mean here? I didn't violate any policy, right? I can register a account under the name, so it isn't a technical issue. I think that the use of "Not allowed" here is blurred and unclear, and I would like to have a clear explanation to the rejection of my rename request, if it is what you mean by not allowed. Otherwise, I would like to have my user name changed. --W. Chan 2010 (talk) 07:27, 8 January 2018 (UTC)
- @W. Chan 2010: you new name conflicts with some wikis rename police, thereby you may have a problem in these wikis, for example in ar.wiki you name is not acceptable because (Long misleading names + names contains numbers that may be related to ID or phone NO. or anything else), so I prefer to see replay from other GR & Stewards --Alaa :)..! 20:01, 9 January 2018 (UTC)
- Not done no response --Alaa :)..! 21:05, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
- I believe that a long string of numbers does not necessarily is an id. My requested new name is composed of two parts, "W" as the initial of my name, and the numbers, which is the value of Pi without the decimal dot. I think that normal people with common sense will not think that it is any sort of id, but rather it is a mathematical value. Also, Alaa, your response did not directly answer my question. What I wanted is a global policy, or at least a policy of English Wikipedia. Please do not quote from policies of non-English wikis as I do not speak the language, and will not visit the site, as in the case of the Arabic Wikipedia. --W. Chan 2010 (talk) 08:50, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
- @W. Chan 2010: The Global rename policy mentioned that "The users will be advised if the name is known to violate a local policy. If a name violates a local policy, the local account may be blocked by administrators on the local wiki and the user will have to resolve such a conflict on the local wiki; possibly by requesting another (global) rename." --Alaa :)..! 16:42, 29 January 2018 (UTC)

- Just to reiterate, as someone who deals with the username policy on enwiki regularly, this will very likely arouse some concern among other users. It's very likely the user will be more likely blocked for disruption if they carry this username.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 16:40, 3 February 2018 (UTC)

- Reason: Unhappy with old name because it doesn't reflect what I've been doing on de.wikipedia, mainly related to Italy. The new name is an abbreviation of "Landeskunde Italien", meaning "regional studies" (regarding Italy), a term that refers to a specific subject, also taught at universities in German speaking countries. Would be happy if this change would be possible. Thanks.

- Stewards/Global renamers: usurp user, rename user
- Reason: First, User:Miraburu is my sub account. I wanted Miraburu to move to User:未蘭巴西 and User:ミランブラジル to move to Miraburu from before, because I tried to be active in "enwp" and "zhwp" so I wanted to use Alphabet and Chinese characters but I didn't want to use Katakana. But I used the sign "未蘭巴西" on "jawp" the other day, account "未蘭巴西" was usurped by other peaple soon after that, so I was forced to change my sign. Could my account usurps "未蘭巴西"? I'm not interested in being renamed to any of these but is there a process for me to usurp some of the more relevant ones (like my name) in case I do decide to rename or have a legitimate alternate account? —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 18:59, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
- It would seem it's probably better to hide some of these usernames. At this point there's no point moving the usernames to free them up, as that just opens it up to possible recreation and abuse. If you want to create an alt account now, I can rename one for you. As for the rest, I'm going to go ahead and ping Stryn and let him handle the rest as a steward.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 19:28, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
- @Koavf: all of these accounts blocked indefinitely, and some of them locked globally, so please choose a one to change your name to it, also note that change of you name Koavf is not easy as you think, because you've more than 2 million edits, so change your name need a sysadmin and I don't think it's a viable use of server resources to rename an account with 2,000,000 edits. Also I'm afraid that a defect will occur during this rename process --Alaa :)..! 16:00, 29 January 2018 (UTC)
- @علاء: Per the request, he doesn't want to rename his primary account. He justs wants these all to be freed up as they were created by an LTA, and possibly because he wants to create an alt account.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 16:28, 29 January 2018 (UTC)

doesn't smell like real WMF account. (I initially thought "what? (WMF)? It's WMF SuSa stuff.", so someone else might have thought same way.) — regards, Revi 16:36, 29 January 2018 (UTC)- Heh, same. - Reason: Not sure if this is the right place to post this issue, but I am going to give it a shot. Currently my username is Mtmlan84. I would like to have this changed to MichellevanLanschot (my full name), because this is less cryptic. This username already exists, because I created it in the past but forgot the password. And would I then be able to merge the two accounts? Thank you for helping me and apologies for the mess up!
- @Mtmlan84: we can't merge accounts, but as (MichellevanLanschot) account made 0 edits, we can change MichellevanLanschot to MichellevanLanschot (usurped) then change Mtmlan84 to MichellevanLanschot, but we should wait one month before. Yes or No? --Alaa :)..! 10:09, 10 January 2018 (UTC)

- @Cyberpower678 and علاء: We can theoretically rename any account, but that account would not be a good candidate given my reasons stated above and given the fact that it would be an active doppleganger account, which is prohibited on some wikis (namely w:en:WP:DOPP). Nihlus 19:34, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
- I think Nihlus is on the right track here. Alternative accounts should usually be identifiable as such; i.e. be "Ajraddatz_alt" rather than "Ajreddatz". The latter is just confusing. Further, the global rename policy is intended to allow users to rename their primary accounts - it speaks nothing of an endless series of alts. I think that we can, and should, be a bit more picky when processing these requests. In this case, I don't think it's a viable use of server resources to rename an alt account with 100,000+ edits to this name, and for the user to actively edit with it. Better to usurp the name, and then allow them to create it if they wish. – Ajraddatz (talk) 19:40, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
