Атеизам, во поширока смисла, е одбивањето на верување во постоењето на божества.^[1] Во потесна смисла, атеизам е ставот дека не постојат божества.^[2] Највклучително, атеизам едноставно е отсуство на верба дека постојат некои божества.^[3] Атеизам е во контраст со теизам,^[4] кој во својата најопшта форма е верувањето дека постои барем едно божество.^[5]^[6]
