A few mentors asked for assistance in order to quit. They weren't able to find the link to quit.
At the moment, this link is hidden under a question mark icon, which is not where we usually hide settings. It will be changed with a Cog icon.
Thanks for filling this task. I agree using a cog icon would make more sense. Let's decide where to put it! I see a couple of options:
The current text inside the (i) popup is "This module contains settings for your mentor status. If however, you wish to quit mentoring permanently, instructions on how to do so are on the following page: How to quit mentoring?". Only the first sentence is relevant to the settings module as a whole, the rest of it is relevant to quitting mentorship. For that reason, I prefer the first solution (remove (i), add a cog icon with an option to quit mentorship).

Another option would be to add a third option on the Status dropdown: "Quit mentorship". Selecting it would lead to Special:QuitMentorship, where the user would be informed of the consequences. It would work as a confirmation step for their choice.
Having multiple info icons within the same module is a little confusing, so I agree this could be a solution:

Or I actually really like @Trizek-WMF 's suggestion to add a "quit mentorship" option to the Mentor status drop down. @Urbanecm_WMF - does this seem like a reasonable solution to you, or do you think it will be problematic? My guess is that it surfaces this "quit" option more and we might have more Mentors resign due to easy access, but I don't know if there are other downsides I'm missing.
It is a legit concern and we have no idea of how it would affect mentorship at the different wikis.
Personally, I prefer to see mentors quitting than having them ignoring questions from their mentees and feeling trapped in a endless hole, because they can't figure out how to quit mentoring.

Ah, yes. This location for the quit button was discussed a lot when Olga T. originally designed the mentor dashboard. AFAIK, the reasoning for putting the quit mentorship link into a popup was to hide it reasonably, to avoid the feature itself motivating mentors to quit.
What you described is the main concern I have with this solution. I think it can have two forms:
First case is the kind of quitting we want (the unevitable one), the second we want to minimize. Since the scenarios leading to "quit" and "mark as away" decisions are similar, I'm kind of afraid putting the button to the status selector will be interpreted as "they want me to quit rather than mark as away".
I think we can avoid mentors accidentally quitting by carefully selecting the wording. And I think it is better to have fewer committed mentors rather than a good number of half-motivated ones.
This was discussed during the monthly mentorship meeting. We decided to go with the cog icon solution, and to revisit if it shows to be not sufficient.
This is high priority, as once the structured mentor list is deployed, this will be the only way to quit mentorship.
First version ready, here is a demo of how it can work like:
I replaced the info icon with an ellipsis menu widget, similar to what we already use in the Homepage's mentorship menu. Once the user clicks "Quit mentorship", they're told that quitting is handled via Special:QuitMentorship, and once they hit "OK", they will be redirected to that page, where they can actually quit.
I think this is much more understandable than the previous version, while it does not make quitting too visible, so we don't tell people to quit unintentionally.

This makes sense to me! If you are looking for copy improvements, I might suggest a slight revision to copy to simplify and better match the language on the Mentor dashboard, but I'm also fine with the current text as is, if you just want to get this out ASAP.

Im wondering about the phrasing of the last sentence, which ses the imperative mood. Is that better than "you can make XX changes via YY", which was used previously? I feel like we shouldn't be giving out orders, but perhaps that's not how it sounds in English?
