About this app

Create a more organized and personalized smart home with Google Home. Set up, manage, and control your Google Nest, Wifi, and Chromecast devices, plus thousands of compatible smart home products like lights, cameras, thermostats, and more – all from the Google Home app.

Personalize your home view.
Pin your most-used devices, automations, and actions to the Favorites tab for easy access right when you open the app. View your Nest cameras and doorbell live feeds, and easily scan through event history. Set up and manage Routines in the Automations tab. And quickly edit any permissions in the consolidated Settings tab.

Understand what’s going on at home with a glance.
The Google Home app is designed to show you the status of your home and keep you up to date with what you may have missed. Check in on your home anytime and see a recap of recent events.

Control your home from anywhere.
Google Home for Wear OS allows you to control compatible smart home devices from your watch. Turn on the lights, adjust the thermostat, or get an alert when there’s a person or package at your front door. Use the favorites tile or add a device to your watch face to make managing your home as easy as a tap on the wrist.

A helpful home is a private home.
Protecting your privacy starts with one of the world’s most advanced security infrastructures, which we build directly into Google products so they’re secure by default. And Google uses your compatible devices and data to make your home helpful, but only in the ways you allow. Visit the Google Nest Safety Center at safety.google/nest to learn more about how we protect your information and respect your privacy.

Like everything else from Google in the past decade, they've taken a good thing and made it a finicky, glitchy, hot mess. Creating a speaker group and adding/removing devices from it at will used to be so easy, now it's a mission just to get it to recognize a Chromecast that's already linked to my account. Speaker groups disappear randomly, deleted items reappear, communication doesn't always work, and the list goes on.

The app has been steadily getting better over the years but there are two changes I wish Google would make. 1. The household selection button only shows on the favorites tab which doesn't make sense. It should be on the devices and/or automations tabs. 2. Give me a way to organize the automations. I have a lot of automations because of three households. It would be a lot easier to find the one I need if the automations can be categorized.

It is so hopelessly buggy, constantly losing its connection between my router, Chromecast devices, and apps. It is very frustrating. Yes, Google, I tried all of your steps below this review and that didn't fix things. And I use what one would think to be an amenable device, a Pixel 5, but still it is so buggy and very unreliable. I always hope the latest app update will fix things, but it never does. Maddening, buggy, infuriating!

We’re sorry you’ve had this experience with your Chromecast, Matthew. Make sure your phone and Chromecast are located within 15-20 feet of the router. Also, try reinstalling your apps and making sure they’re up-to-date. For more help, reach out through chat, phone or social forums: https://bit.ly/3mS38ME
