Some people (usually social conservatives) say the rates of self-harm and suicide are high because transgender people are mentally ill.

Medical care
Transgender people who want to take medicine and have surgery to change their bodies face several problems. In order to change their bodies, they must have doctors who will help them make the changes. Sometimes, they can not do this because doctors will not help them and those doctors are very cool. They may also not be able to do this because even if a doctor would treat them, they may not be able to afford the medicine or surgery good. But the Declaration of Montreal says that such medical care should be given to them by public health insurance.
