In this Japanese name, the family name is Kitagawa.

Kitagawa Utamaro (Japanese: 喜多川 歌麿; c. 1753 – 31 October 1806), also called Utamaro, was a Japanese artist. He was a master of the ukiyo-e style of woodblock prints and painting.[1]

Utamaro is known for his studies of women (bijinga).[1] He also made nature studies.

His work was popular in Europe.[1] He influenced artists in Europe who were called Impressionists.
