Charlotte's Web is a high cannabidiol (CBD), low tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) Cannabis extract marketed as a dietary supplement under federal law of the United States and medical cannabis under state laws. It is produced by the Stanley brothers in Colorado. It does not induce the psychoactive "high" typically associated with recreational marijuana strains that are high In THC. In September 2014, the Stanleys announced that they would ensure that the product consistently contained less than 0.3% THC.

Charlotte's Web is named after Charlotte Figi, born (2006-10-18) October 18, 2006, whose story has led to her being described as "the girl who is changing medical marijuana laws across America." Her parents and physicians say she experienced a reduction of her epileptic seizures brought on by Dravet syndrome after her first dose of medical marijuana at five years of age. Her usage of Charlotte's Web was first featured in the 2013 CNN documentary "Weed". Media coverage increased demand for Charlotte's Web and similar products high in CBD, which has been used to treat epilepsy in toddlers and children.

Charlotte's Web is a children's novel by American author E. B. White and illustrated by Garth Williams; it was published in October 15, 1952, by Harper & Brothers. The novel tells the story of a pig named Wilbur and his friendship with a barn spider named Charlotte. When Wilbur is in danger of being slaughtered by the farmer, Charlotte writes messages praising Wilbur (such as "Some Pig") in her web in order to persuade the farmer to let him live.

Written in White's dry, low-key manner, Charlotte's Web is considered a classic of children's literature, enjoyable to adults as well as children. The description of the experience of swinging on a rope swing at the farm is an often cited example of rhythm in writing, as the pace of the sentences reflects the motion of the swing. In 2000, Publishers Weekly listed the book as the best-selling children's paperback of all time.

Charlotte's Web was adapted into an animated feature by Hanna-Barbera Productions and Sagittarius Productions in 1973. Paramount released a direct-to-video sequel, Charlotte's Web 2: Wilbur's Great Adventure, in the U.S. in 2003 (Universal released the film internationally). A live-action film version of E. B. White's original story was released in 2006. A video game based on this adaption was also released in 2006.

Charlotte's Web is a stage musical with music and lyrics by Charles Strouse, and a book by Joseph Robinette based on the book by E. B. White.

Production history

Charlotte's Web is licensed by Dramatic Publishing to middle schools, high schools, colleges, and community theaters worldwide. Strouse noted that the musical's film rights were held by others and that no New York producer would invest in the show without the film rights, so the musical was produced in regional theaters. Thomas S. Hischak (Professor of theatre arts at the State University of New York College at Cortland) mentioned that the musical has not played in New York City, but has had many productions in schools and other theatre organizations.

Joseph Robinette, a retired professor of speech and theatre at Rowan University, wrote an authorized stage play with E. B. White.

The Strouse/Robinette musical Charlotte's Web premiered at Opera Delaware in 1989.

Actors' Playhouse Musical Theatre for Young Audiences presented the piece in 2006–2007 at the Miracle Theatre in Coral Gables, Florida.
