Demi (born Charlotte Dumaresq Hunt, September 2, 1942) is an award-winning children’s book author and illustrator. During her career she has published over 300 titles.

Biography

Early life and education

Demi was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She is the great-grand daughter of the American painter William Morris Hunt, and the great-grand niece of architect Richard Morris Hunt. Demi earned her nickname as a young child when her father started calling her "demi" because she was half the size of her sister.

She studied art at Instituto Allende, Mexico, and with Sister Corita at the Immaculate Heart College in Los Angeles. She was a Fulbright scholar at the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, India where she received her master’s degree.

Demi is known for her biographies for spiritual figures including Buddha, Krishna, Lao Tzu, Jesus, Mary (mother of Jesus), Muhammad, Rumi, Francis of Assisi, Gandhi, and the Dalai Lama.

Awards and honors

The Empty Pot was selected by former First Lady Barbara Bush in 1990 as one of the books to be read on the ABC Radio Network Program Mrs. Bush's Story Time. Based on a 2007 online poll, the National Education Association named The Empty Pot one of its "Teachers' Top 100 Books for Children."Gandhi was awarded the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Award, while Muhammad was named a New York Times Best Illustrated Book.

Demi is a prefix meaning "half", loaned from French; for example, demi frere which means "half brother" or demi soeur which means "half sister". Demi-glace is made by simmering and reducing by half a mixture of half brown stock and half espagnole sauce.

Demi also has Latin roots as a feminine given name, originally a nickname form of Demetria, the feminine form of the masculine name Demetrius, which is itself the Latin and English spelling of Greek name Demetrios.

Ödemiş is a district of İzmir Province of Turkey, as well as the name of its central town (urban population 75,577 as of 2012), located 113 km southeast of the city of İzmir.

About 4 km north of Ödemiş town are the ruins of Hypaepa. The historical importance of the region is also reflected by the small town of Birgi, east of Ödemiş, which was the capital of the Anatolian Turkish Beylik of Aydın and it has outstanding examples of Seljük and Ottoman architecture. Demi is the fourth studio album by American singer Demi Lovato. It was released on May 10, 2013, by Hollywood Records. Looking to transition from her self-described "generic" third album Unbroken (2011), Lovato wanted to make her fourth album to "have songs that excited her". The album incorporates pop with elements of synthpop, and bubblegum pop. The album was recorded between 2012 and 2013, when Lovato served as a judge on the second season from the American version of The X Factor.

Demi received generally favorable reviews from music critics, who complimented Lovato's vocal performance. The album debuted number three on the US Billboard 200 with the first-week sales of 110,000 copies—the highest first-week album sales of Lovato's career. The album also reached the top five in Canada, Ireland, Italy, Mexico and Spain.
