John Henry Anderson (1814–1874) was a professional magician, born in The Mearns, Scotland. Anderson is credited with helping bring the art of magic from street performances into theatres and presenting magic performances to entertain and delight the audience.

Orphaned at the age of ten, Anderson started his career appearing on the stage with a traveling dramatic company in 1830. At seventeen, he began performing magic and in 1837, at the age of twenty-three, he performed at the castle of Lord Panmure, whose endorsement of Anderson inspired him to put a touring show together which lasted for three years. In 1840, Anderson settled in London, opening the New Strand Theatre. Sir Walter Scott is said to have given him the stage name, The Great Wizard of the North.

Anderson's success came from his extensive use of advertising and popular shows which captivated his audience. The Wizard was committed to philanthropy and expert showmanship, making him one of the earliest magicians to attain a high level of world renown. Anderson declared: "It is the duty of all magicians to give entertainment," and he was not content to perform an illusion to simply demonstrate that he could accomplish something that the audience could not explain. If the effect was not enthusiastically received, Anderson would remove it from his act. Anderson is famous for a lifetime of successful performances of the bullet catch illusion. Although he did not invent the trick, he made it widely popular and several of his rivals copied Anderson's version in their own shows.

Sir John Steele Henry, KNZM QC, is a New Zealand jurist and former Court of Appeal judge, and member of the well-known Henry family.

The son of former High Court judge, the Hon. Sir Trevor Henry, John Henry was educated at King's College, Auckland, before attending Law School at the University of Auckland.

He graduated with an LLB in 1954 and was admitted to the New Zealand bar in 1955.

He worked as a barrister and solicitor at the Henry family law firm, Wilson Henry (now Hesketh Henry) that was established by his father, Sir Trevor, and gained a reputation as a robust litigator, building a substantial commercial litigation team at the firm. He was made a Queen's Counsel in 1980.

In 1984, he was appointed to the bench of the High Court of New Zealand, later being a Commercial List Judge and then Executive Judge prior to being appointed to the Criminal Appeal Division of the Court of Appeal in 1991 and Justice of the Court of Appeal of New Zealand in 1995.

In 1996 he became a member of the Privy Council and sat on its Judicial Committee. He was also a justice of the High Court of the Cook Islands.

John Henry (born 31 December 1971 in Vale of Leven) is a Scottish former football player. During his career, Henry played for Clydebank, Kilmarnock, Falkirk, Airdrie, St Johnstone, Queen of the South and Dumbarton. After retiring as a player, Henry joined the coaching staff of Partick Thistle and Burnley.

From 2010 he was the reserve team coach at Bolton Wanderers, but left the club shortly after the dismissal of Owen Coyle in October 2012. He subsequently followed Coyle to Wigan Athletic in 2013, undertaking a similar role to that of his Burnley and Bolton days. In January 2015 Henry was appointed assistant manager, working with Ian McCall, at Scottish League One club Ayr United.

John Henry is an African American folk hero and tall tale. He is said to have worked as a "steel-driving man"—a man tasked with hammering a steel drill into rock to make holes for explosives to blast the rock in constructing a railroad tunnel. According to legend, John Henry's prowess as a steel-driver was measured in a race against a steam powered hammer, which he won, only to die in victory with his hammer in his hand as his heart gave out from stress. The story of John Henry is told in a classic folk song, which exists in many versions, and has been the subject of numerous stories, plays, books and novels. Various locations, including Big Bend Tunnel in West Virginia, Lewis Tunnel in Virginia, and Coosa Mountain Tunnel in Alabama, have been suggested as the site of the contest.

The historical accuracy of many of the aspects of the John Henry legend is subject to debate. Several locations have been put forth for the tunnel on which John Henry died.

Big Bend Tunnel

Sir Henry Anderson (born ca. 1582) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1614 and 1643. He supported the Royalist cause in the English Civil War.

Anderson was the son of Henry Anderson of Newcastle, Northumberland. He matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford on 24 November 1599, aged 17, when he was of Long Cowton, Yorkshire. He was of London when he was knighted at the house of Sir Thomas Hasilrig at Holmby Alderton on 4 August 1608. He was Mayor of Newcastle for 1613–14.

In 1614, Anderson was elected Member of Parliament for Newcastle upon Tyne. He was High Sheriff of Northumberland in 1615. He was re-elected MP for Newcastle in the elections of 1621, 1624, 1625 and 1626.

In November 1640, Anderson was elected MP for Newcastle upon Tyne in the Long Parliament and sat until he was disabled on 4 September 1643 for supporting the King.

Anderson married Mary Remington.
