The Open Door is the second studio album by the American rock band Evanescence. It was first released in Poland on September 25, 2006, through Wind-up Records and subsequently in more than 20 countries worldwide. The release date, which was originally intended to be in March 2006, was changed because of guitarist Terry Balsamo's stroke, the loss of the band's former manager, and Will Boyd's and Ben Moody's departure from the band. The album symbolizes a new beginning for the band, incorporating new elements into their previous musical styles, which include gothic rock, symphonic rock and pop music as well as the use of choirs on several songs. The writing process for the album took over 18 months to complete; most of the songs were written by Amy Lee and Terry Balsamo, and were produced by Dave Fortman.

The album received mixed reviews from music critics, who generally praised its lyrical content and the instrumentation accompanied by Lee's vocals. Some critics gave negative reviews of the band's sound, which differs from that of the band's last album Fallen (2003). The album was nominated at the 50th Grammy Awards for Best Hard Rock Performance for "Sweet Sacrifice". The band also won the category Album of the Year at the 2007 MTV Australia Video Music Awards. The Open Door debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, selling more than 447,000 copies in its first week. It topped the charts in Australia, Europe, Germany, Greece and Switzerland, and charted in top five in over fifteen countries. The album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) just over a month after its release, and has since sold more than five million copies worldwide and has been certified in over fifteen worldwide markets.

Valotte is the debut pop studio album by singer-songwriter Julian Lennon. The album was produced by Phil Ramone and recorded at several studios from February to August 1984. It was released in October 1984 on Charisma and Atlantic. The album was first certified gold in the United States, in the new year, then shortly afterwards being certified platinum. From the album, four singles were released, each with a music video, charting at various positions on the singles charts in both the United Kingdom and US. "Too Late for Goodbyes", the second US single, and "Valotte", the first US single, were both US Billboard Top 10 hits, the former reaching number 5 and the latter reaching number 9. The album peaked at number 17 and 20 in the US and UK, respectively. In early 1985, a few months after the release of the album, Lennon went on tour around the US, Australia, and Japan from March to June 1985.

Background

"Let Me Be Your Star" is an original song introduced in the first episode of the first season of the musical TV series Smash, entitled Pilot. It was written by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, but in the show's universe, it was written by songwriting duo Tom Levitt (Christian Borle) and Julia Houston (Debra Messing) for the Marilyn Monroe musical they are working on, Bombshell.

In the first episode, the song is performed by characters Karen Cartwright (Katharine McPhee) and Ivy Lynn (Megan Hilty) as they each prepare for and then audition for the role of Marilyn in front the production team.

The song has since been reprised numerous times in various episodes, both as solos and duets. For the first season, it was also sung by Karen and Ivy in the second episode "The Callback" and the seventh episode "The Workshop", by Ivy in the sixth episode "Chemistry", and by Rebecca Duvall (Uma Thurman) in the eleventh episode "The Movie Star" and the fourteenth episode "Previews". In the second season, it was reprised by Karen and several female members of the Bombshell ensemble in the first episode "On Broadway", and by Ivy in the eighth episode "The Bells and Whistles" and the eleventh episode "The Dress Rehearsal".
