Alex Diaz-Granados (1963- ) began writing movie reviews as a staff writer and Entertainment Editor for his high school newspaper in the early 1980s and was the Diversions editor for Miami-Dade Community College, South Campus' student newspaper for one semester. Hi, Dennis!

Thanks for reading (and reviewing) my first book! I wrote it at a difficult time in my life (my mom was in declining health, and I wanted to self-publish something before she passed, so I hastily put together the Save Me the Aisle Seat book. I'm glad I did it, but it does have flaws because I rushed through the editing process. I like Reunion much better, not only as a writer, but as a reader. So, thanks for reading and liking Save Me the Aisle Seat as much as you did.

As for the books you mentioned, I'll check them out! (less)

Currently, I'm working on "Reunion: Coda," which is both my first novel and the second book in the Reunion Duology. (The first book, "Reunion: A Story" is a novella, and when I wrote it back in 1998, I thought it would be a standalone story, with no sequels or prequels.)

Truthfully, though, I have been on a writing hiatus from the novel because I've moved from Florida to New Hampshire and I'm still in the "settling-in" process, but I intend to pick up where I left off in the manuscript - and soon. (less)

Save Me the Aisle Seat (an excerpt)

Hi, fellow Goodreaders!

As you probably know, I recently published (through Create Space), my first non-fiction book, Save Me the Aisle Seat - The Good, the Bad and the Really Bad Movies: Selected Reviews by an Online Film Reviewer. It's essentially a modest collection of some of my Amazon/Epinions movie reviews, with some changes made for the book version for aesthetic and editorial reasons.

Reunion by Alex Diaz-Granados
“Do you remember what you said to me on the last day of school?” I ask.

“I said a lot of things, Jim. But that was, what? 14? 15 years ago?”

“You said that if I didn’t tell her how I felt, it would come back someday and bite me on my ass.”

“That sounds like something I would say.”

“I hate to admit it,” I say, “but you were right.”

“I was wise beyond my years,” Mark says lightly.

“At the time, I thought you were just messing with my head.”

“I was messing with your head. I was also telling you the truth.”

Reunion by Alex Diaz-Granados
“[Opening Lines] It’s quiet here. But then again, it’s supposed to be quiet. Cemeteries, even those in the heart of a city, tend to be full of silence. The sounds of the neighborhood – barking dogs, laughing children, even the traffic on the adjacent streets – are swallowed up by the silence of the graveyard. The walls around the perimeter of the cemetery – imposing redbrick walls six feet high and adorned with a black iron fence – have something to do with it, I suppose. I’m a historian, not an acoustical engineer.”

“My heart aches with pent-up yearning as I hold the girl of my dreams in my arms. I look into those wonderful eyes and a million questions rush into my fevered mind at that instant. I try to speak, but Marty places her index finger on my lips and gently shushes me with a Mona Lisa smile. “Don’t say a word,” she whispers. “Let’s just dance, okay?”
Alex Diaz-Granados, Reunion: A Story: A Novella

“Hello, Jimmy,' said an all-too-familiar voice from somewhere behind me. It was Marty. No one else at South Miami had that delightful, almost exotic English accent.

I turned around slowly until I faced her. “Hi, Marty,” I said.

She got up from one of the few chairs that had not been placed in storage and gave me a shy half-smile. “So, come to say goodbye, then?” Marty asked.

I gazed at her, committing every detail of her appearance to memory. She wore faded Levi’s blue jeans, a white and orange SOUTH MIAMI CHORUS T-shirt, white socks and an old pair of Keds sneakers. Her chestnut hair was tied into a ponytail. She wore very little makeup; a touch of mascara here, a hint of blush there, a bit of lip-gloss to make things a bit interesting. She was shockingly, heartrendingly beautiful.

My heart skipped a beat. “I couldn’t go without seeing you, you know,” I said.

She smiled. “Oh, come on; I bet you say that to all the girls.”

“It’s true,” I said. “And no, I don’t say that to all the girls.”
Alex Diaz-Granados, Reunion: A Story: A Novella

“It’s always so sad when things like this happen,” Mark says quietly.”
Alex Diaz-Granados, Reunion: A Story: A Novella

“Eventually all things fall into place. Until then, laugh at the confusion, live for the moments, and know everything happens for a reason.”
Albert Schweitzer

“No one can give a definition of the soul. But we know what it feels like. The soul is the sense of something higher than ourselves, something that stirs in us thoughts, hopes, and aspirations which go out to the world of goodness, truth and beauty. The soul is a burning desire to breathe in this world of light and never to lose it--to remain children of light.”
Albert Schweitzer

“All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.”
Leo Tolstoy , Anna Karenina

“The sweetness of a kiss is not in two lips, touching each other; it is in the feelings that bring and keep them together.”
