HoweveFirst I must admit I chose to read this book because I had a reading challenge that needed a MC to be named Anne (annie or Ann would work too). However I had to DNF this book.
Reading the synopsis this book seemed interesting. Yes it was a bit cliché as far as plot however I thought it might have potential ... boy was I wrong.
I made it as far as page 74 before I had to bow out... for many reasons. Within the first couple of pages the main character goes home with a woman she just met at her newly opened vet clinic for dinner, meets the brother -in -law and almost sleeps with him. There is almost no world building in the beginning of the book and yes i know that it is the second a series however I looked at multiple reviews all of which said that these books could be read as a standalone. Clearly they were wrong.
If I ignore all the reasons mentioned above as to why the book was not hooking me in (could be my general dislike/mistrust for most people) the fact that every time the Annie (the female MC) spoke to Dallas (the male MC) she had to call him cowboy did it. Literally ever time she opens her mouth to say anything to him the word cowboy comes out. I'm all for pet names or nicknames but not every time you speak to someone... its just not a natural part of conversation.
If you like bodice ripper books with very little plot then this might be a book for you.
I'm going to try another book by this author and i'm hoping its leaps and bounds better than this one....more

Several times in the story the author forgot that she was using the made up town of bainbridge and said the characters were in cambridge. Also at one point towards the end of the book she has the main characters sitting in the car but somehow weston manages to pick up peyton and swing her around. Other than there there was very good book and character development. ...more

While Patricia Briggs books have started to have a rinse and repeat feeling to me, this one feels different. It feels like a slow burn to something bigger. Something Major going on between Mercy and Wulfe, Leaving me impatiently waiting for the next book because I NEED to know what's going to happen.
While the book features the usual Mercy running around claiming to be clueless and backing or "falling" into a solution, this time We get a lot more history and character building for Wulfe and the vampires. Hopefully we don't have to wait 3 or 4 more books for the situation with Wulfe to come to a head. I would have liked to seen more done with the fabric that Wulfe gave Mercy but thats just me.
Also HOLY plot twist with Sherwood being a Cornick. Did not see that one coming but totally feels like something Baun would do.
Over all good book and got me reinvested in the series....more

This book was advertised as inspired by travis and taylor (swifts) relationship but i failed to find any similarities other than hes a football player and shes a singer.. I would have loved to see the FMC have been established as a star singer.. maybe the author will revisit these characters later and we will get that. overall the book was just ok for me. ...more

This book took me an extended amount of time to read not because the book was awful but because life got in the way.
In this book we learn more of Celaena's and the other main characters personalities. However, the BIG SECRET that is revealed to Chaol at the end of the book is not really a big secret... it was obvious from the first time that Archer talked about it.
The main disappointment I think with the book and maybe the series is that all throughout I keep hoping for something Good for Celaena, something that stays.
Overall a very good book and i would definetly recommend and probably even reread at some point down the line. ...more
