Nawal El Saadawi wrote an unforgetable powerful character, fierce in her condition, relatable in her feelings as a woman. In an unapologetic way, Nawal El Saadawi sheds light to problems faced between men and women in Egypt but also universally. The deception, lies, corruption, violence, sexualisation, infantilization and so much more that women still face today in one way or another. This novel does not accept the moral codes instituted by men, the acceptance that a woman should stay in her place, should repent, be sorry, soft, unsinful. On the contrary this novel, through story-telling, denounces how, because of opression they have to rebel, to assert themselves in order to survive. I would highly recommend anyone sensitive to this topic to give this Egyptian novelist a chance....more
