This is what appears to be the first in the Marvel Crime series by several authors, and I thought Lisa Jewell did an outstanding job with Jessica Jones. I listened via audio and was highly entertained by the story and the characters, I’m not as familiar with Jessica Jones and Luke Cage as I am with some of the other Marvel characters but that did not matter. I am a huge fan of Marvel, and I loved the story and how it ended, and am very much looking forward to the next one in this series!...more

I always enjoy CJ Tudor and I have really loved stories about vampires lately. This was not what I expected, having them live among humans, and of course the humans are not the most thrilled with this but there are rules and laws so here they are. And then a boy is found brutally murdered in such a way that the most likely suspect is a vampire, and the town is ready for a cull, believing this is a Colony killing. Detective Barbara Atkins is called in and she tries to be objective, but as small towns go, they are not patient and really want only one outcome.
The audio was narrated by Lorelei King, and she did a fantastic job (no surprise there, I always enjoy her narration). Some light humor was worked in at times by the author, which I appreciated, and while it did get a little slow as procedurals sometimes can, the ending was great and I read it in a couple of sittings. Overall this was very entertaining and one that I enjoyed....more

Taking place in West Virginia, it was a fascinating read, one that I knew nothing about, and there was a lot of build up to get to the ultimate battle, which was riveting.

Happy Pub Week to No Road Home by John Fram! This is my first read of his and I will definitely be going back to his prior novel shortly, as I really loved this one! It is a slow burn thriller/horror read based on a family that has gone wild when the televangelist grandfather is found murdered, and Toby, who has recently married into said family, must protect his queer son Luca as well as clear his name when he is easily the prime suspect. But also I just felt for Toby and the situation he found himself in. Like you are going home for a quick family visit and then it all just takes a horrific turn. And the family knows what they want but Toby will do anything to protect his son so things easily escalate quickly and everything he thought he could trust and believe in is flipped upside down in a matter of hours.
This was on the slower burn side, but it worked really well with this story. I felt so many emotions while reading this, I felt for Toby and Luca, and being from the South, I connected instantly with the story that Fram was trying to tell here with religion being the end all be all of daily life, hypocrisy and all. I thought this was very well done and I cannot recommend it enough....more

I did not know much about Knopf editor Judith Jones and so this was an excellent and fascinating read. It was interesting to see how she navigated the publishing world that was dominated by men, how she fought the expectations of her personal life and held to what she wanted to do, and how she fought for a book to see the light of day that we all now could not see a world without, The Diary of Anne Frank. Other authors she was responsible for include John Updike, Sylvia Plath, Anne Tyler, and Julia Child to name just a few. The audio for this is wonderful and I do recommend picking this one up, either physical copy or audio. I love books about women who fight and stand for what they believe in and Judith Jones was definitely inspiring....more

An extremely well written, interesting story about the life of Henry James, who I really knew nothing about. The prose flowed well and kept my attention, although a bit slow at times. I look forward to reading more of Toibin’s works....more

Oh my, what an incredible read this was!! I super enjoyed this one, and the title sure is fitting for this story! Our girl Meredith is a mess, and as much anxiety as she gave us both, I was certainly rooting for her in the end. She has experienced an incredible, sudden loss, and we know that there were some consequences for her after what happened, but we don’t know why or to what extent, we just know she is clearly still reeling from them nor is she handling things well.
I was hooked from the start of this one and could not stop listening to the audio, which was excellent. And while I had an inkling of what was going on, I did not know everything, and the ending was still mind blowing and insane! I won’t say any more, I just hope you add this one to your list!...more

OMG what in the world was this crazy wild ride of a book?! This one was messed UP and let me tell you, I LOVED IT!! When Miranda reached out and asked if I would read and review her newest I instantly said yes, because I love her books, there was no question I would. However, I did not expect to be BLOWN AWAY by this one! It is my new favorite of hers, and y’all there were a couple of moments I was like wait WHAT? Did I just read that right? And I had to go back and reread to catch the subtle reveal that she slid in there. And yes, I had read that right and was shook. Oh but she was not done folks, there was yet another doozy that was waiting, and I was on the floor.
This one came out on July 14th, please make sure you add it if it is not already on your radar, you will absolutely love it! Oh, and make sure to go in blind, which is why I’m being a little vague here but it is worth it. Well done Miranda, I loved this one SO much!!...more

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading and listening to this series, and while this finale was a little different than the other two, I loved how it all wrapped up. I love these aunties and their shenanigans, their traditions, their loyalties to family, including Meddy’s husband Nathan, and their culture. In this one, Meddy and Nathan have just wrapped up their honeymoon and they stop over to celebrate Chinese New Year with the family in Jakarta, and wouldn’t you know it, things go awry, and shenanigans ensue from here. This was a delight to read and I really am sad this series is over. If you haven’t read it or the series, you should pick it up, it is definitely a fun and entertaining read!...more

This subject is not an easy one for me to understand, and thankfully this book was able to explain it in a way that it clicked and made a little more sense. It is still fascinating to me how crypto and NFT’s are still a ‘thing’, given their volatility and unstable history, and now how often they are used to con folks. I listened to this one via audio and it was such an incredibly fascinating read that I definitely recommend if you want to learn more about this market and its scandals....more
