A super smart guy named Robert Cialdini studied how to manipulate and persuade people. They are tricking people into saying "yes" without them even knowing it! There are 7 magic tricks: Reciprocity: If someone gives you a present, you feel like you owe them one. Commitment and Consistency: Once you promise something, you will stick to it, even if it’s painful. Social Proof: If everyone else is doing it, it must be good. Liking: We normally say "yes" to people we like. Authority: We trust people in uniforms or with hierarchy titles and ranks. Scarcity: We want things more if they’re hard to get. (Limited version) ⌚ Unity: (The latest trick) We will say "yes" to people who are like us. Knowledge is power, but with great power comes great responsibility!

After reading "Homo Sapiens," I wanted to learn more about human history. Humans control the world by telling stories and working together. Many types of humans, like Neanderthals and Denisovans, and many animals, are extinct because of humans. Humans have changed the planet a lot, both in good ways (like making technology) and bad ways (like harming the environment). The book mentions ancient people from places like Sunghir, Ohalo, Lascaux, and Stadel. We are the most dangerous animals

This book is recommended by Goodreads. It has many ideas on how to live. The answers are different because it depends on what you want in life. Life is about exploring, not finding a perfect answer. Some ideas are common, but there's no right way to live. The important thing is to find what works for you and stay flexible as things change. Here are some of his tips from the book as follows: "Offer products, not a personal service, so your business can run without you." "Silence is the only way to hear quiet wisdom." "Places don't make emotion. You do." "Today's discomfort brings future rewards." Most of my reviews are just my way of making sure I remember my advice.

Kevin Kelly's book is full of short, powerful life advice. It is easy to read but takes time to understand. The book is aimed at young people but offers valuable advice for readers of all ages. I would like to share a few pieces of advice I read from this book. "Learn how to be alone without being lonely. Solitude is essential for creativity." "Writing down one thing you are grateful for each day is the cheapest possible therapy ever." "Fear makes people do stupid things so don't trust anything made in fear." "Don't be the best. Be the only." "Draw to discover what you see. Write to discover what you think."

I read Volume 1 a few years ago. This graphic novel makes complicated history and science ideas easy to understand with vivid illustrations. There are many interesting ideas to think about. It's a great educational tool for both children and adults. The story is fun and engaging, using humour and recurring characters. It's a great read for anyone interested in history, anthropology, and how human societies developed.

I would say that life is all about negotiation. Chris Voss, a former FBI hostage negotiator, offers several key pieces of advice for effective negotiation: Empathy: Understand and acknowledge the emotions and perspectives of the other party. Active Listening: Pay close attention to what the other party is saying to gather valuable information. Mirroring: Repeat the last few words the other person has said to build rapport and encourage them to elaborate. Labelling Emotion: Identify and vocalize the emotions of the other party to make them feel heard and understood. Calibrated Questions: Ask open-ended questions that begin with "how" or "what" to encourage deeper conversation and insight. Beware of "Yes": Be cautious of simply getting a "yes" response, as it may not always mean true agreement or commitment. Use Silence: After making a point or asking a question, use silence to prompt the other party to respond more fully. I personally like his approach of using the Late-Night FM DJ Voice: employing a calm, soothing tone to create a sense of calm and control during negotiations. "That's Right!": Aim to get the other party to say "That's right!" which indicates they feel understood and validated. A long-winded book overflowing with examples.

I guess a lot of people including myself are worried about AI. Humans and AI can achieve better results by working together rather than individually. AI is meant to work alongside humans, not replace them. The book explains using AI tools for learning, career growth, and personal improvement. AI can help as a teacher, advisor, and colleague. The book looks at the good and bad sides of using AI, stressing the need for careful development to avoid problems. AI can boost efficiency and support ongoing learning. Adopting AI is crucial for staying ahead. Despite some difficulties, AI has the power to enhance problem-solving and teamwork, leading to a brighter future. AI can process large amounts of data to find patterns and enhance fields like education, science, health, and even autonomous driving (like Tesla's full self-driving). (BOINC projects benefit too)

Are we the illuminators or diminishers? How well can we understand others? Can we make people feel like we truly see and hear their feelings? Sometimes, just being there for someone is the best thing. When someone is sad, we don't need to force happiness but accept how they feel. We should listen, care, and show them we're still with them. The good news is, we can all learn to see others better after reading this book! Bill Gates also recommended this book in his 2024 summer reading list.

I read and studied this book to enhance my everyday decision-making and problem-solving skills. The book presents a variety of clear thinking techniques that are practical and applicable. It emphasizes that the small decisions we make daily can significantly impact our larger future decisions. The author underscores how emotions can cloud our judgment and offers strategies to mitigate this influence. Moreover, the book provides valuable tools to refine and optimize your decision-making process. In summary, "Clear Thinking" encourages taking control of your thought processes to better align them with your objectives and achieve success. Am I CLEAR?

This book presents a hopeful view of human progress and the future of our species. Humans have consistently improved their lives despite facing obstacles like wars, diseases, and natural disasters. Human prosperity is largely driven by the ability to exchange goods, services, and ideas. The author argues that the progress of agriculture, government, and energy are the turning points of humanity. Technology and innovation can help us find solutions to problems like climate change and resource depletion. The author presents a hopeful view of human progress, emphasizing the importance of cooperation, innovation, and the exchange of ideas in overcoming challenges and improving the quality of life for people around the world. Those interested in science, economics, and history (think Adam Smith, Charles Darwin) would find this book engaging. The book goes into more detail with historical examples and interesting facts. "The idea for plastic came from photographic chemistry." "The camera pill is an idea that came from a conversation between a gastroenterologist and a guided-missile designer." "In the Vienna exhibition, workmen accidentally connect a reserve dynamo with electricity and it begins to spin all by itself, in effect it becomes a motor."

I really love this book. It made me reread the words and challenge my mind to understand the meanings. It's like a conversation about how to live a happy and successful life. Work for yourself, not for time: Owning a business or creating something is better than just trading your time for money. Make good choices in life. The book is full of interesting ideas that will make you think about how you want to live your life. I will treasure this book and revisit its pages time and again. Its wisdom has already made a profound impact on me.

I rated this book 3.5 stars. I've read his books "Deep Work" and "Digital Minimalism". In fact, when you slow down, the results of slow productivity are effective. Slow productivity suggests three core principles: Do Fewer Things: Instead of trying to do everything, prioritize and focus on a small number of truly meaningful tasks. Work at a Natural Pace: Design your work to accommodate your own rhythms and energy levels, not rigid external demands. Obsess Over Quality: Shift your focus from quantity to quality. Prioritize producing excellent work.

In this book, I gleaned various insights, including WD-40, "I'll be back," 24 Hours, Amor Fati, Haruki Murakami, and more. The seven useful tools outlined are: 1. Establish a clear vision. 2. Think big. 3. Embrace hard work. 4. Foster effective communication. 5. Cultivate resilience in problem-solving. 6. Remain open-minded and attentive. 7. Commit to social responsibility. Recall the central message of "Be Useful" by integrating these seven tools into our lives and actively pursuing our dreams.

This book shows us how to become Supercommunicators. Supercommunicators are individuals who consistently excel at conveying their ideas and connecting with others. We should ask ourselves 3 important questions in most of the conversations: 1. What's this really about? 2. How do we feel? 3. Who are we? Specific techniques and approaches are discovered, offering practical strategies to improve communication. This book is a valuable resource for anyone seeking to enhance their communication skills. I need Daniel Kahneman's System 2 thinking to digest this book.

What stole our focus? The answer might surprise you. We spend too much time on social media such as Facebook, Google, Instagram etc. The tech giants are designing tech and algorithms to exploit our attention for profit. Other factors include environmental pollution, poor sleep, and nutrition, which impact brain function. We can improve our attention by limiting tech use, prioritizing sleep, and incorporating meditation into our lives. We should slow down and focus on one thing at a time. Try not multi-tasking...
