I'm going to be honest here and admit that I wasn't expecting a ton of depth of this story. But boy was I surprised by the ending. This is not just an adventure but also a story of survival at it's finest. My favourite character was by far Babak the frog. He really comes out of his shell and becomes the here that he reads about in his books. By the end I was feeling a bit sad and afraid of what's to come next for the Seacity inhabitants but also happy about what life has planned for them next. All in all, this is a read that will leave you with wanting more of the characters story but it will also make you think about certain problems that our world has to deal with these days. ...more

This story read itself. From the first page to the ending it was packed full of mystery, bravery and love. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the characters' personalities. It was like going on an adventure that was about more than just a murder. It was about saving a nation. And to find out that the scroll is a real item, just the cherry on top of the cake. This is definitely a book that will intrigue it's reader and make him/her wonder about the possible future these characters will have. I admit I was expecting more from the ending, since it did feel a little like there is potential for a sequel and we do not get the full closure that at least I wanted to have. But nontheless, a fantastic story well worth my time. ...more

This was such a lovely short story that I think the kids will really like to read about, especially since it's about a horse's journey to becoming the best racehorse. Also the illustrations were quite nice and added that something special to the story. I would definitely recommend others to give this book a try. Not much can go wrong when it's a story about such a majestic animal. ...more

I loved it! It's super fun and the characters are just awesome. This is a story that will make you smile from start to finish and you definitely won't regret buying it. Also the illustrations are really good and are a great help to envision the whole story, so I'm sure the kids will love them. As for the characters personalities, they were all so different and that never made a single one of them boring. You get a bigfood, human, fairy, jackalope and amongs others also a friendly lake monster. Mind you I also liked the villain of the story. Everything just fit and I had a great time reading about these characters adventure. Just a fun short and magical story. ...more

I loved it! From the beginning to finish, I liked everything about it. My last reads weren't that great, so I really needed a good book to lift my spirits and this one definitely did the job. The story is so intriguing and the plot just sucks you in. Also the characters are wonderful. They mature and form a closer bond through their nightmare school trip, and what a trip it was. This book is all about adventure, friendship and love. These things can shine the light even in the darkest places. What an amazing story! ...more

I like reading children's fiction book because they usually make you feel better. And while I liked the story in this one I'm not so sure about the illustrations. They were just a bit odd. I get what the idea behind it all was but the execution could've been better. And that's why I can't rate this book with more then three stars. Illustrations in any children's book are very important to the reader and if they don't captivate you then the chances are that the rest of the story will fall flat. With better artwork I think I would've liked it more. ...more

I don't know if it's the illustrations, the simplicity or just the stories that make my day a bit better. But I think the kids will really like and enjoy it.

The main reason I decided to read this story was because of the cover, which is kinda cute and gives off feel-good wibes, and the blurb - mainly the part where it describes the story as "post-apocalyptic sci fi, dry humor, and utter adorability". Just seeing that had me sold. I really thought that this could be one of my new favourite books. But to be completely honest, apart from the cute and adorable illustrations and some of the characters personalities, there was nothing more to the story. No dry humor, not even normal humor, no real plot and in the end I just skimmed through the scenes. There were also some unanswered questions about what happened to the previous race aka. humans and animals. I don't know, this just wasn't my cup of tea. Maybe some will find the story more fun than me and give it a try... ...more

I like both books and the plots are great, as well as the illustrations but to be honest, I like this one better. The flow seems more easy to me and the rimes are better than in the second one. That being said, in the second book they aren't bad, just not as good as in this first book. All in all, this is a great children's book that will make kids and their parents think about pollution and how to be more responsible with where you throw your trash. A nice story with an even better lesson.

When I first saw the cover and the blurb for this story I knew I had to read it. The illustrations are so cute and lovely that they make the story a bit more fun to read, since the story itself is about pullution awareness. I'm so glad the author chose to write this story, since pollution really is a global problem. And I think that the author also chose a smart way to explain this problem to the young generations. I mean, who doesn't like to read about cute animals and how they make our planet better. That being said, I've recently reviewed another children's book and I found the writing style in the previous story a bit better, in regards to the rimes and content of the story, therefore I couldn't give this book a higher rating. That's just my personal preference and I'm sure many would disagree with me on that perspective. Especially kids, since they probably wouldn't even care about things such as this. As long as they like the story, that's in the end really all that matters....more

Who would've thought that learning history could be this much fun? As someone who always struggles with memorizing past events, this book sure did an amazing job of teaching me about the evolution of human diving. The plot says a lot about what this book is all about but when you actually read this story you get so many details and cool facts, rhymes and fun illustrations that learning about the characters lives and their explorations simply becomes a joyfull read. The book makes you feel like you're part of the characters journey and that's hard to do for most books, at least it is with me as a reader. So what I'm trying to say is, this book is awesome and should definitely be given a chance. Who knows, maybe you learn something new and have a great time reading about the adventures of the 19-th century explorers or as I'm sure Gloria Hollister would say "detectives' seeking nature's secrets". ...more

It's quite a short story but that doesn't mean you enjoy it any less. Apart from the plot, the art reminded me slightly of illustrations of Snow White and the seven dwarfs, which I love. That being said the illustrator does have his own, very unique style that I like. It's fun, it's captivating, just like the plot of the story. I'm sure that anyone who reads this book will have at the end a smile on their faces. And that's what books such as this are meant for. A truly enjoyable read....more

This is such a quick sweet read about a small baby owl and her flight through the night with her owl mama. It's as stated in the blurb, an questions and answers type of bedtime book. I can well imagine a fun play before sleep between the child and their parent, where the child can read those questions and their parent answers them. Also the illustrations are so beautifully done, I completely fell in love with them. What I did miss was perhaps more of a story, rather than just a dialogue. But still, a wonderful book. ...more

First off, I'm a huge fan of anything related to Hans Christian Andersen. The stories that he created truly transcend way beyond his time. They, at least to me, always have a life lesson in them and even though they usually end on a more sad note, they still stick in your memory years later. I love fairy tales, as a kid and even now and probably will when I'm in my late years. So, when I saw a re-make of one of his famous stories, I simply had to read it.
Now, overall I liked it. There are great characters, plot and you simply get a nice feeling when reading this story. But since this book is meant for ages 5 and up, I'm not so sure how they'd like the font. To me, it was too small and children usually like bigger and more simpler fonts. So you could say that I wasn't a big fan of the authors choice in regards to that. Also, and some might call me a picky reader, there were times when I wished for a better execution of the art. Again, overall it's great, but in some pages I wished for a better detail (especially with eyes). I know that the children won't mind it...but I do...
Now, the fact that this time around the main character is a girl and not a boy is a nice change. I enjoyed that. And I also liked the ending. You could say that it's a nice re-make. But for me Hans Christian Andersen is Hans Christian Andersen. And he's one of the greatest fairy tale writers that I know of. So while I might've enjoyed this story, I'd still prefer one of his originals.

I'm rarely reading childrens books but when I do, I know I'm usually in for a good treat. And this story is simply wonderful. I feel in love with the main character and her friends and family. I especially loved her grandmother. Mouse is so brave, fearless, compassionate and has so much courage, I really enjoyed her character. She has big dreams and even bigger steps to fill in. I'm not going to go into the plot, since no matter what I say, I would for sure be giving away some of the mystery and joy of discovering this book's potential. All I can say is that it's a pleasure to read and you won't regret doing it. ...more

It's a perfect story about a jorney of friendship, how it forms, how you can meet many people with just a hint of kindness and above all it's a story that will make you feel really good. I'm so glad I got the chance to read it, otherwise I'd be really missing out. Also the writing is really simple and easy for kids to read and understand what the story is all about. At the same time it's also really beautiful, which I appreciated a lot as a grown up reader. As said, the writed did a fantastic job with the whole story. But we can't forget about the fascinating and refreshing illustrations by Maral Sassouni. They made me smile and I think the kids will love them. They are not perfect but I think that's exactly what makes them so good, since kids don't expect perfect illustrations, they expect illustrations that some of them (who have the gift of making art at such an early stage) can also draw themselves and they relate more to them because of that. And let's not forget that this is their debut work! Yes, debut! They both made such a wonderful job with this story and I'm sure I'll enjoy more reads from them in the future....more

I've heard so much about Grumpy Cat that I simply had to read all these amazing stories about her and her loyal brother Pokey. I really liked all stories but my top three were for sure Paws of justice, Detective Cats and I know what you did last summer...I just don't care. Also, the illustrations were amazing. Lots of detail and color. I enjoyed the stories even more because of them.
In Paws of justice I felt like the roles were reversed, where Pokey was the big hero and Grumpy Cat his sidekick. I enjoyed reading about them saving the neighbourhood. Detective Cats is simply amazing. We get to see Grumpy Cat's brilliancy and just how foxy she can really be. Guess she did have the last laugh after all. This collection of stories ends with I know what you did last summer...I just don't care. It's a wonderful conclusion with new friends that will make you wish for more.
All that's left to say is that you should definitely read this volume!
