it was amazing

What a punch to the gut. This is feminist poetry that is a must-read for members of both sexes. Some of the powerful imagery conveyed here by Rich is etched into my mind, not soon to be forgotten. I'm sorry it took me this long to get around to reading her, but better late than never.

Luke I've read a handful of the poems in this collection, and so far, it is pretty amazing. Really looking forward to the remaining works.

Christy Hammer Adrienne Rich made me a feminist in my late 20s. Great review!

What an amazing writer. Any other crucial feminist lit you would recommend?

Christy Hammer This was the first (and only, besides Walt Whitman) books of poetry I'd read, after I read her On Lies, Secrets, and Silence: Selected Prose, 1966-1978 for a graduate philosophy of education class. Highly recommend! I don't know much fem lit but if you're interested in now "classic" fem philosophy/theory here are a few that changed the way I thought and are still worth reading: The Second Sex; Toward A New Psychology Of Women;Reclaiming a Conversation: The Ideal of Educated Woman; The Gender Question In Education: Theory, Pedagogy, And Politics; Ain't I a Woman: Black Women and Feminism, and In a Different Voice: Psychological Theory and Women's Development.
