It's easy for us to stay 'stay positive', and I think it is more about being disciplined. So be disciplined with your thoughts, those you spend time with, proactively seek helpful updates and information about your situation, while at the same time taking steps to understand how you wish to navigate your own path. The more disciplined and proactive you are during layoffs, the easier it is to be 'positive', because you are confident that you are taking action that will benefit you in the long-run.

When I was laid off years ago, I found the free time a good opportunity to learn a new skill. I enrolled into a distance course on creative writing. As it turned out, in the later years I made a career shift and am full time into writing and editing now.

Accept that you are in extraordinary circumstances. Reflect but do not exhaust yourself ruing some lost opportunity that could have seen you better off. Reflect to look forward. Who are the people you could reconnect with, what are the new skillsets you could acquire? Seek advice from those who had been in a similar situation as you. Avoid going into a shell. It does feel awkward but losing a job is not something to be embarrassed about. This is exactly the time to establish new connections or reignite some that were forgotten.

Maintain a normal life and pay close attention to mental wellness. A layoff is not a catastrophe. What goes down comes up too. I was in this situation once when life seemed uncertain. With a family in tow and bills to pay it was tough times. I continued a normal life with a close watch on my finances but without making super drastic cuts in necessities. I kept up with my physical workouts. That along with my efforts to keep myself mentally strong worked beautifully.
