3 Ways to Motivate Yourself (That Actually Work)

How are you feeling? My assumption is that you’re not feeling as motivated as you want to feel hence why you’re here.

Here’s the thing about motivation. It doesn’t last.

It comes and goes. It’s like a plant that needs constant watering and nurturing.

And without it, you feel lifeless.

First let’s think of motivation through a different perspective because motivation can sound so basic and cliché. Wouldn’t you agree?

So, another word for motivation is drive and you need drive to fuel your performance. And you need elevated performance to be productive.

So how can you motivate yourself and stay driven without the basic advice of watching motivational videos and creating a vision board?

Here’s how.

Here are 3 Ways to Motivate Yourself:

Listen and Envision

Sometimes when our motivation depletes, a reminder helps to bring us back. Taking the time to envision where you see yourself, how you see yourself, what you see for yourself, and the future you’re creating is a great activity to do each day. Other ways of doing this is by looking at your vision board(s), goals or however you write down the things you want to manifest and reminding yourself what you’re working for. You can also try activities like quantum leaping, meditation, and journaling. The point is to remind yourself why you’re doing what you’re doing and going where you’re going. Listen to your innerself and visit those visions whenever you need a reminder to keep you going.

Think the Worst

Now, it’s not what you hear majority people say when it comes to the mindset. On a regular basis, you have many people telling you to stay positive, think positive, etc., and although, I do agree with them, I also see a benefit in thinking negatively. In this case, when you’re feeling unmotivated, a good way to trick you back into staying driven is to think the worst possible scenario of your life. What would it look like if you didn’t stay motivated and achieve your goals? What would it be like if you didn’t create the life you see for yourself? How would you feel? How would it affect the people around you? And so on. It’s pretty much doing the activity of “Listen and Envision” but instead of thinking of your vision fulfilled, you’re thinking of it unfulfilled and seeing how that option would make you feel worse. So, of course, you don’t want to feel that way or reach that outcome so thinking of the worst could you help you push towards the best.

Gentle reminder: if you do this activity, be sure to talk to yourself through and after the process in a positive light. You do not want to do this activity and feel worse after. So, if you do, go back to “Listen and Envision.”

Check Yourself

Sometimes when we feel unmotivated, it can stem from our own self-sabotaging behaviours, beliefs, and/or thoughts. Sometimes, the one draining your motivational fuel is you. But that’s ok as long as you’re willing to check yourself and change yourself. Check your recent habits, actions, choices, thoughts, feelings, influences, etc. Check to see if something or someone influenced you negatively lately. Check to see if you’re allowing any external situations or circumstances to drain your fuel. Check to see if you’re still passionate about what you do. When you bring awareness and clarity to the problem, you’ll be able to create and/or find a solution much easier.

You hear me say this a lot; life is a rollercoaster ride. We go up and down all of the time with no warning, especially in business as an entrepreneur. Therefore, learning how to stay motivated or motivate yourself is helpful if you want to perform efficiently and produce effectively.
