Working with high-performing, desk-based women, I often see this common belief: many think that going hard at the gym twice a week can make up for 50+ HOURS of sitting at a desk... Don't get me wrong - gym is great, but it's only part of the solution for staying healthy. Prolonged sitting is associated with serious health issues; cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, back pain - and the list goes on... We are in the era of a sitting pandemic, so this message needs repeating: We need to move more THROUGHOUT the day—walking, stretching, or standing up regularly. Research shows sustained low-level activity is key. Aiming for 10,000 steps a day is good, but shooting for 15,000 is even better. Even if you go to the gym on weekends, long periods of inactivity during your work week can still take a toll on your body. Consistent low and moderate activity over time is where the real benefits are. If this resonates with you, try using an activity tracker (like a Fitbit or smartwatch) to help guide you toward incorporating more movement into your day. For a minute, forget the aesthetics and summer body BS — but rather think about being around your family for years to come!

Get up every hour for a minute at least and walk around - your neck and back will thank you!
