The University Writing Center (UWC) is dedicated to fostering a community of critical writers and critical thinkers in accordance with the University’s mission to engage “high-achieving scholars” in life-changing pedagogical practices. Hence, our motto is "Writers Transform Writers!"
The UWC strives to support writers in their effort to become confident, proficient writers and to provide high-quality service to the N.C. A&T community. To attain this goal, writing consultants support writers through in-person and online synchronous conferences and programs such as presentations, workshops, and course-embedded consultations. Writing consultants participate in ongoing training and professional development and possess a deep commitment to help their peers improve their writing skills. Because we believe writing is a way of learning, we assist writers at any stage of their writing process—prewriting, researching, drafting, revising, or publishing—and with any writing concept. Equally important, we promote evidence-based practices
- reading (read-aloud protocol),
- thinking (Socratic questioning),
- writing instruction (note-taking),
- computer literacy (functional, critical (generative AI), and rhetorical),
- immediate, effective feedback, and
- process writing.
