Back to Road Bike?

So after buying the FX3, finding it not as comfortable as I was hoping , changing out the tires for 700x38s instead of the 700x32s and finding that too slow on downhills and straights, I think I’ve come to the conclusion that I need to go back to a road bike. Any suggestions for one that has comfortable geometry for back and neck, yet not too much more than $1000?
