September 2022

[edit]

Hello, I'm Eihel. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent description edits to Q113331258 didn't meet the Wikidata description guidelines. Descriptions should appear as though they were in the middle of a sentence, typically start with a lowercase letter, and written from a neutral point of view. For example, "pop singer" would be a better description than "He is the best pop singer." If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks!  Eihel (talk) 18:41, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm Eihel. In case you didn't know, descriptions begin with a lowercase letter except when uppercase would normally be required or expected. Essentially, you should pretend that the description is appearing in the middle of a normal sentence, and then follow normal language rules. Most terms would not be capitalized if they appeared in the middle of a sentence. However terms such as proper nouns (e.g. the names of specific people, specific places, and specific titles) should be capitalized. If you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks!  Eihel (talk) 18:42, 26 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Leveling Up Days: your feedback is needed!

[edit]
Thanks for joining the Wikidata Leveling Up Days!

Hello there,

You receive this message because you added yourself on the participants list of the Wikidata Leveling Up Days. I hope you had a chance to attend the event!

If you didn't have a chance to attend, no worries: all the video materials are available in this Wikimedia Commons category. It includes captions in English and you can also contribute to adding translations in other languages.

If you attended at least one session or watched a video, we would love to have your feedback on the event! We kindly ask you to fill in this participants survey. It is anonymous and will take you 5-10min to answer.

We hope to see you around on Wikidata in the future. If you want to stay in touch with the community, feel free to join or subscribe to our communication channels!

Best, Lea Lacroix (WMDE)

Commons category

[edit]

Hi Abike25, I noticed you have added Commons categories like "Category:Headland" to the Wikidata items for some places in New Zealand (for example, Poutākoro Head (Q97336966) – I wanted to let you know that Commons category (P373) should be used to point to categories on Wikimedia Commons that contain images of the specific item on Wikidata: for example, Young Nicks Head (Te Kuri) (Q8058327) has the Commons category (P373) commons:Category:Young Nick's Head, which contains photos of that particular headland. These are very different to categories on Wikipedia, so you shouldn't add broad Commons categories like "Headland" or "Park" to Wikidata items for specific geographic places (although you can add it to the Wikidata item for headland (headland (Q191992)), or that things in New Zealand are part of the Australian continent (Q3960). Also, please don't add part of (P361) New Zealand (Q664) – the statement country (P17) = New Zealand (Q664) is sufficient. Thanks, Canley (talk) 14:20, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Okay thanks for the correction,I will take note of that Abike25 (talk) 14:23, 20 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You are still adding Commons category (P373) statements which are not for the specific item. - Nikki (talk) 15:43, 14 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Notability

[edit]

Thank you for contributing to Wikidata. I see that you recently created an item that does not clearly indicate its notability. The Wikidata project only accepts items that meet its notability criteria, and your item is therefore likely to be deleted soon. In brief, items must have an associated Wikipedia article, must be needed for statements on another notable item, or must have both identifiers and serious sources. For the last case, a good indication of notability would be multiple articles about the subject in independent publications like newspapers or magazines. You can add such sources as references to specific claims using reference URL (P854), or as top-level claims using described at URL (P973).

Also, this may not apply in this specific case, but you should know that we discourage editors from contributing on topics with which they have a strong personal connection, as this may present a conflict of interest. If you are being paid to edit here, then you are obliged to disclose this. For a longer version, you might find it useful to read the essay "How to create an item on Wikidata so that it won't get deleted".  Madamebiblio (talk) 18:04, 5 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Abike,

are you sure that this item is notable?-- Thorium Browser (talk) 19:05, 23 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Coordinate Me - congratulations

[edit]

Hi Abike25,

Thank you for your contributions to the Wikidata contest Coordinate Me 2024 in May! And congratulations! After calculating the numbers of all the dashboards for the 16 countries that were part of this contest you scored within the 30 top contributors worldwide. You can find the results in detail here: Results and winners.

If you like userboxes you can add one for this contest with {{User CM24}} (see an example).

We will contact you through e-mail so we can decide how you can receive your prize together.
