Hi, be free to talk here, created this as I do not like redlinks. :)

Welsh place names

[edit]

Hi DankJae, would appreciate it if you came directly to my talk page first if you think any edits I made were incorrect/mistakes. I've made a comment in reply on the other talk page. Thanks Titus Gold (talk) 02:55, 20 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I commented elsewhere because 1) I am not accustomed to Wikidata labelling policy and prefer alternative advice, 2) you performed many edits, 3) you had removed the English name entirely multiple times, so did not seem to be a mistake but a clear intention to. Nonetheless, wanted to ask other more prolific editors if official names are fine, and I am personally fine with using it in the label, but you removed the name everywhere, even breaking links to other pages. Llyn Tegid

[edit]

Hello,

I have to admit I did not look any further than the name of the French article. I just wanted to get rid of the silly "lac Tegid" which has never been used anywhere by anyone as far as I can tell. A quick glance on Ngram Viewer does suggest that "lac Bala" is more common in French than "Llyn Tegid", I'm going to raise the point on the article's talk page. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Thanks as well for the community maps, they are very welcome. I have spent the last few months creating the hundreds of missing Welsh communities on the French Wikipedia, it's been quite the task but I am almost done. Now to improve them... Ælfgar (talk) 12:39, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Ælfgar, I assumed the change didn't match sources, considering how many they changed dozens at the same time across multiple Wikipedias and Wikidata citing "le nom officiel (Gallois)". Just be aware, of the ones they changed or ones they may do in the future, that's all. Of course, these changes can be justified at some point, but so far not now, it's too early. Merci.
