Hello, I'm Madamebiblio. In case you didn't know, descriptions begin with a lowercase letter except when uppercase would normally be required or expected. Essentially, you should pretend that the description is appearing in the middle of a normal sentence, and then follow normal language rules. Most terms would not be capitalized if they appeared in the middle of a sentence. However terms such as proper nouns (e.g. the names of specific people, specific places, and specific titles) should be capitalized. subclass of

Hello EM-tla, I noticed some wrong/redundant additions of property subclass of (P279), especially with items in the category artificial physical object (Q8205328). This mistakes involve introducing circularity (1), adding redundant statements (2) and adding statements that don't hold true for all instances of the class (3).

1) One example of wrong addition of a subclass statement introducing circularity concerns item clothing (Q11460). Here you added the (wrong) statement clothing (Q11460)subclass of (P279)traditional costume (Q3172759). That item x is the subclass of item y means that everything that is an x is also an y. But not everything that is clothing is also a traditional costume - it is rather the other way round. The proposition that every traditional costume is also clothing is already expressed at item traditional costume (Q3172759) using traditional costume (Q3172759)subclass of (P279)costume (Q9053464) (because at costume (Q9053464) we have costume (Q9053464)subclass of (P279)clothing (Q11460), which implies the statement traditional costume (Q3172759)subclass of (P279)clothing (Q11460))

2) This brings me to an important characteristic of subclass of (P279): It is transitive, meaning that the statements xsubclass of (P279)y and ysubclass of (P279)z imply also the statement xsubclass of (P279)z. It is not necessary to state xsubclass of (P279)z explicitly; this would not be wrong, but redundant, and for this reason such statements should be omitted.

To have one example of your additions here: You added traditional costume (Q3172759)subclass of (P279)artificial physical object (Q8205328). But this is not necessary because we already have clothing (Q11460)subclass of (P279)artificial physical object (Q8205328) and traditional costume (Q3172759) is an (indirect) subclass of clothing (Q11460). You can see the subclass tree at its talk page, in section Classification of the class ... [expand] (e.g. https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Q3172759)

3) You added statement traditional costume (Q3172759)subclass of (P279)archaeological artifact (Q220659) but this does not hold true for all instances: there do exist traditional costumes that are not archeological artifacts, for example contemporary instances of Bavarian costume (Q13420706).

You may have a look at Help:Basic_membership_properties#Unterklasse_von_(P279) for a thorougher introduction to this property. Depending on your background it may be one of the more difficult properties, so don't worry if it takes a while to understand it and its use completely.
