A mystery count of Nassau

Dorothy Elizabeth Wheler, a maid of honour to Catherine of Braganza, is stated to have married a "Count Nassau" in several sources available online, including the Baronetages of Wotton, Debrett, and Burke, and in Crisp's Notes to the Visitations of England and Wales. (Here's a portrait of her in the style of Lely.) Any idea who this Count Nassau might have been? I assumed he would be from one of the illegitimate lines descended from William the Silent, but haven't found him yet. Opera hat (talk) 14:35, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Hello, I have searched the entire genealogy of the House of Nassau. There is no Dorothy Elizabeth Wheler in that genealogy. Which means the unnamed Count of Nassau she is supposed to have married does not belong to the House of Nassau. Royalty & Nassau Expert (talk) 17:53, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

I have made a complete genealogy of the House of Nassau, compiled from many sources in several languages. This genealogy also includes all illegitimate branches. That file in Word is 586 pages. For myself I added an index with family names to make it easier to search. As her name does not appear in this genealogy nor in the index, I can only conclude that her husband was not a member of the House of Nassau. He must have been a member of another family with the same name, such families did excist. Royalty & Nassau Expert (talk) 14:43, 21 February 2021 (UTC)
