English: A w:en:dyno torch, a hand powered electric torch, disassembled to show mechanism. Squeezing the handle (left) spins the flywheel through the plastic rack and pinion gear. The flywheel has a ring-shaped magnet on it which, combined with the coil of wire (right), makes a brushless AC generator. The magnetic field of the spinning magnet induces electric current in the coil of wire, which powers the light bulb. The torch only generates light when it is pumped, so it doesn't need an ON/OFF switch. Modified by Midnightcomm to correct white balance and be cropped.
