Page Update

[edit]

I've updated the page to include some more detailed (and referenced) information on Bathgate's history and given the page a badly needed tidy up. Semiaza 15:45, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

John Newland

[edit]

The link to John Newland links to that of an actor of the same name. Does anyone feel like writing a short bio of the Bathgate John Newland? Preacherdoc 00:56, 7 July 2006 (UTC)Preacherdoc. Bathgate galaday is a gooood day =D x x[reply]

Bathgate History

[edit]

Some clarification on the derivation of the name Bathgate would be desirable: "Bathgate derives its name from Batket, meaning "house in the wood" - is there a valid reference source for this information?

Additionally, the existence of Bathgate's "castle" and it's historic links with Robert the Bruce have no noted reference source, without such a verifiable reference, surely that's hearsay?

Most of the Bathgate stub appears to have been lifted from the Undiscovered Scotland website: http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/bathgate/bathgate/index.html Undiscovered Scotland also neglect to source their references and therefore cannot claim to be a valid source of information.

"rapidly growing"

[edit]

I have removed from the opening sentence the part that describes Bathgate as being "rapidly growing". The statistics in this article show that the population was 15068 in 2001, up from 13819 in 1991 (that's 9 percent over ten years), and from 11291 in 1951 (that's 33 percent over 50 years). Is that really "rapidly growing", compared with other British towns? That's using the most recent stats, which are nearly a decade old now. If the statement is justified then perhaps someone could quantify it with comparisons to other towns. Otherwise, it sounds misleading to include those words in the introduction. leevclarke (talk) 01:26, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
