Peat Power Stations
[edit]- The station at Allenwood was closed down and demolished after 1994; I do not know of second power station at Timahoe and the link for Timahoe is to Timahoe Co. Laois anyhow. So I think it is the best I delete this part altogether.--Wanfried-Dublin (talk) 18:16, 4 February 2014 (UTC)
Greater Dublin Area
[edit]- Kildare is not or ever will be part of the "Greater Dublin Area", a regional area surrounding Dublin.
From the Greater Dublin Area article:
- Greater Dublin Area (GDA) is a loosely defined term which is used to describe the city of Dublin and the counties of Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown, Fingal, Kildare, Meath, South Dublin and Wicklow of the Republic of Ireland.
I don't know if someone has some sort of agenda here. Kildare is clearly part of the GDA, and as a matter of fact North Kildare is part of the "Dublin Metropolitan Area" with regard to planning guidelines (see http://www.dto.ie/platform1.pdf , see picture on page 6), and also the Gardaí's definition of DMA includes Leixlip (http://www.garda.ie/angarda/statlinks/dma.html). Admittedly the traditional definition of Greater Dublin would not inlude most of Kildare, but Leixlip, Celbridge and Maynooth would be included. I am going to change this statement as such.
I don't know where you are from but by the sounds of it, it's not kildare. I have lived in Kildare all my life and it's an insult to be called part of the greater Dublin area. The best thing you can do is concentrate on the County of Kildare without including Dublin in any way or form. Do your research in Kildare and not by reading what the Gardai classify its postion as. Any Kildare person will laugh and ridicule you for your ignorance when you mention the Greater Dublin area. Sort it out.
- Obviously you have not checked your facts. But ignoring them will not change it. Djegan 11:22, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
Maynooth-Kilcock distance
[edit]Looking at google maps for the area, it struck me that the distance from Maynooth to Kilcock is almost as far as from Leixlip (well, relatively "far" anyway, 8 km is not far), but for some reason people think Maynooth is right beside it, and this article states it is 2 km away. I'm going to change this as a result as the AA give the official distance as 6 km.
Dialect and languistic characteristcs?
[edit]Does anyone know anything about what dialect (or dialects) are spoken in County Kildare? This might be as simpl as a link to a secion in the Ireland or Irish Language article - I don't know if they have a dialect map. --Jim
- We have a lot of immigrants from Dublin and the west - all very welcome - so it is harder to define a dialect. This is very unscientific, but I "know it when I hear it".Red Hurley (talk) 09:41, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
Kildare tartan
[edit]I've removed this as it is a sales thing with no historical basis. Sorry to the businesses concerned.Red Hurley (talk) 09:42, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
Drug Capital
[edit]Why is Celbridge mentioned as the Drug Capital of Kildare? Where are the statistics to back this up? And if there are statistics, is it really necessary to mention it? 86.42.218.242 (talk) 23:51, 23 January 2010 (UTC) I've removed this, if there is a statistic to back it up, then i can reconsider putting it back. —Preceding unsigned comment added by User11111user (talk • contribs) 00:42, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
Gaelic name
[edit]"(Irish: Contae Chill Dara)" is correct since the 1960s. Before that from 1922 it was officially "Conndae Cílle Dara". Can't say why they changed it.78.18.252.15 (talk) 15:32, 9 March 2013 (UTC)

Wrong source in infobox for population
[edit]In the infobox the population for 2016 is given as 222130, which is right. But the source given is the census of 2011! If a source is given, it should be the right one. Otherwise it might be better not to give a source at all?--Wanfried-Dublin (talk) 14:57, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
Flag
[edit]An editor (contributing to Wikipedia as anon IP 77.75.244.149 and to Wikimedia Commons as Irish Kildare Man) has repeatedly added an image, purporting to be the (official?) flag of County Kildare, to the infobox. The uploader has provided no rationale, sources or explanation for this addition. And has ignored repeated Talk page prompts to do so.
In terms of the source, the image used appears to have its basis in this 2001 post to the "Flags of the World" mailing list in which a contributor to that mailing list states that it is the "new flag" of "Kildare County Council". Other contributors to the same forum thread are unable to confirm the flag contributor/designer's assertions. Even if they did, per WP:RSP#Flags of the World and this discussion, discussions and UGC submissions to the "Flags of the World" website/forum are not considered a reliable source. Unless the above-editor can provide a reliable and verifiable source, to establish that the claimed flag is flown to represent the county (officially or otherwise), I do not understand what it is doing here. WP:BURDEN applies (as, now, does WP:3RR). Guliolopez (talk) 20:19, 4 August 2023 (UTC)
