Merge

[edit]

I think that Toyota Soarer should redirect to Lexus SC, much like Toyota Celsior redirects to Lexus LS. I will be happy to merge the non-redundant information from the Toyota article, provided there is consensus to go ahead with the merge. DonIncognito 03:36, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nah, they are pretty different. Soarer has 2 different engines(single and twin turbo 2.5, a active suspension and a complete previous generation. Then there is the different interior/instruments. The SC and Soarer are decently different. There can be references to that page but a merge is sort of ehh. -Mwmorph

Merge with SC ?

[edit]

Despite the body shape there are huge differences in the Japanese and US models, the Twin Turbo 1JZ version was never available in the US nor was air bag or active suspension available on the V8 range. Other notable omissions on the US models include the touch screen TV for controlling A/C, Hi-Fi and Sat-Nav

Wrong!

[edit]

No idea where you guys get your info, but you're wrong. The Lexus SC was made for the USA market, where as, the Soarer was for the Japanese domestic market, and as such they put all their best toys on the JDM version. Like a 4 wheel steer and fully active suspension model that has only now,15 years later been copied by the likes of Mercedes and BMW. The Soarer comes in 3 engine sizes, right hand drive only and the V8 version has 3 different types. A coil rung GT model, much like the US SC400 and then one with air-bag suspension, and then finally the hydraulic "Active". The interior package really shows what Toyota thought of the home market and the US one, by giving the US market a rather basic and boring deal. The home market had touch screen TVs and interactive car computers, sat-nav, digital dash readouts. The 2.5 six cylinder comes with a twin turbo set up, and all models (when delimited from the Japanese legal restrictions of 112KPH) are fully able (with NO other mods) to reach speeds in the area of 160mph +. There are video's on www.toyotaimportsforum.co.uk showing this.

They are, totally different cars and are therefore deserving of being not merged.

Disagree

[edit]

I don't think the Toyota Soarer and Lexus SC should merge, as they were created for totally different markets, and the soarer includes models that were never available to the US market.

To be very honest, these two pages describe them both as personal luxury coupé and I am not prepared to take any s**t for some of these excuses. Discussion continues here. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Willirennen (talkcontribs) 16:10, 16 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]
I posted this in the link you provided but thought I should post it here for other readers who may miss it. The American version (Lexus) has no where near the amount of options and standard equipment the Soarer does. I don't believe a Soarer should be called a Lexus SC. Do you merge Bentley and Rolls Royce pages together due to them sharing the same body? The Soarer is available in different engine configurations and many different interior and exterior options then the Lexus is.
If you really must merge them it would be best to point Lexus SC to Toyota Soarer and have the Lexus SC listed under that as the Lexus is a poor man's' version of the Soarer (Many Soarers have things such as TV, Leather Seats and dash, digital dash etc as standard equipment where as the Lexus doesn't even have some of it as an option)
Also, I think a point to be noted is that the Toyota Soarer existed before the Lexus SC thus there are bodies and models that have never been available as an SCCharlieHAus 08:09, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Don't Merge: I have imported 3 different Toyota Soarers into Canada (1 second gen and 2 third gen). The second Gen was not mad in Canada and when it was hit ICBC was unable to get parts because it was so different from car we have here. As for the two third gen Soarers I have imported they have some similarities to the SC400/300 but when you look close they are defiantly different enough to make them worthy of there own page. The UZZ31 4L V8 has the leather seats and fully adjustable interior that no Lexus came with and the other came with a 1JZ that also never came in a SC300/400. In conclusion just like everyone else is saying these cars are very different and should not be merged into Lexus SC however if you instead on merging them the Toyota Sorer has more older and better models then the Lexus and there for should be the main article not Lexus SC. They Shouldn't Merge. They're different cars. For starters, the Soarer is an unique car. The trims will be different. Geek556 15:24, 13 February 2007 (UTC) 15:24, 13 February 2007 (GMT)[reply]

That's hardly trivia...

[edit]

The "trivia" section of this article is little more than a list of celebrities than own SCs. This would seem more appropriate in an issue of Entertainment Weekly. The trivia of this car would be, for example (these aren't facts), it was designed by an italian design house, or that it had a valet key to lock the throttle, or things of that nature. Not just "These people own SCs." PowderedToastMan 18:42, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Great point, thats what I wanted to say when I deleted much of these lists in similar pages, I have now deleted much of it unless its been referenced in a show. Willirennen 01:21, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dimensions/Specs

[edit]

There seems to be a lot of people tweaking around with the specs on the 1st gen SC, stating untested or unproven heights, weights, widths, etc from year to year outside of Lexus' original official specifications: http://www.lexus.com/contact/pdf/1992/1992SCspecs.pdf http://www.lexus.com/contact/pdf/1993/1993SCspecs.pdf http://www.lexus.com/contact/pdf/1994/1994SCspecs.pdf http://www.lexus.com/contact/pdf/1995/1995SCspecs.pdf http://www.lexus.com/contact/pdf/1996/1996SCspecs.pdf http://www.lexus.com/contact/pdf/1997/1997SCspecs.pdf http://www.lexus.com/contact/pdf/1998/1998SCspecs.pdf http://www.lexus.com/contact/pdf/1999/1999SCspecs.pdf http://www.lexus.com/contact/pdf/2000/2000SCspecs.pdf

I have tried several times to fix the specifications to match these official ones; however, particularly anonymous users keep changing the data and putting misinformation. I suggest the article's specs be revised to coincide with these official ones, then restrictions be placed on users from tampering with them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Österreich (talkcontribs) 13:55, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Top Gear

[edit]

Several editors (mostly anonymous IP address and new editors) have added that Top Gear called the SC "the worst car in the world...ever". I have several reasons for rejecting this. Firstly, Top Gear is not an automotive show but rather an entertainment show that happens to use automobiles as its medium - it is well known for staged stunts and comments meant to get a cheap laugh (often involving smashing caravans). Secondly, approx 150,000 units sold is low volume for Toyota but hardly a sales disaster. Thirdly, does the SC/Soarer appear on any other "worst cars" list? Fourthly, did they mention any particular mechanical faults? I contend that the writers of Top Gear wrote that comment to get a cheap laugh and were not seriously reporting on the car.
