Pompeii archaeologists uncover 'sorcerer's treasure trove'

Published 12 August 2019  The chest was uncovered in the House of the Garden in Region V of the archaeological park - the same area where an inscription was discovered last year, indicating that the eruption may have taken place in October 79, two months later than previously thought.

Pomp and Celtic "pemp"

"According to Theodor Kraus, The root of the word Pompeii would appear to be the Oscan word for the number five, pompe".

Interestingly, "five" in Breton is said "pemp" and in Welsh "pum(p)". Gwalarn (talk) 18:35, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Edward Bulwer-Lytton wrote a novel, "The Last Days of Pompeii".
