Piracy

[edit]

Hey Middayexpress. I see that you have been doing a lot of work specializing in Somalian pages. I have been seeing a good amount on things related to piracy in Somalia and am shocked there isn't more about it on some of the pages, especially with the support the anti-piracy movement has received from the UN and other countries. Have you seen this (UAE) or this (UK)? I also know that Resolution 1976 and Resolution 2015 tie in. Just wanted to let you know that I am going to be adding sources and content around and can let you know when I come across valuable ones. Dreambeaver (talk) 20:20, 17 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I'm actually a member of WikiProject Africa as a whole. That said, I'm not sure what you mean by piracy not being mentioned on the Somalian articles since it's actually already discussed on the relevant ones. There's a main article on the subject, Piracy in Somalia (which should probably be called "Piracy off of the Somalian Coast" or "Piracy in the Indian Ocean" since the Indian Ocean is where the piracy actually takes place; like Piracy in the Strait of Malacca). Feel free to add the material to that main article, though it's probably already included. Regards, Middayexpress (talk) 20:32, 17 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I notice that on the main page, Hilary Clinton has spoken on this but there isn't a lot of information about U.S. support. I know the TFG has been receiving recognition but it seems like the U.S. isn't putting in as much care as they should. I know that they have turned their focus to a few select areas and combating piracy is going to be a concern ([1]). Do you know of any more efforts that the US supports? Dreambeaver (talk) 22:14, 17 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding the Puntland Maritime Police Force, I have removed the WP:SYNTH, WP:NOR and WP:OFFTOPIC that was added and redacted the material per the refs. None of the cited links mention Al-Qaeda, Al-Shabaab, AMISOM or Kenyan troop involvement with the force. The links also don't discuss the PMPF at all ([2], [3]). Please note that the actual topic of the article is the Puntland Maritime Police Force, not piracy. Anti-piracy efforts are only one of the PMPF's forces' activities; marine resource defence and logistics duties are the other two. Also, out of curiosity, may I ask how you found the PMPF article? It was created a few days ago, and I notice your account was registered just last month. Middayexpress (talk) 00:40, 18 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If I didn't know any better, I would think that's an accusation of something — although I'm not sure exactly what. Even though I feel like I'm being interrogated, I came across PMPF through your user contributions page. I have an interest in Somalia and there has been much press regarding piracy, like the links I was attempting to share with you earlier. I saw that you made some positive edits to a related page and I thought I would reach out. I'm not sure what I did to deserve hostility... I'm also a little confused as to what constitutes "original research." If I do a Google search, does that constitute original research? Dreambeaver (talk) 01:29, 18 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I was just wondering, as new pages are often difficult to find on their own (particularly for new users). Click on the links above for the answer to your policy questions. Middayexpress (talk) 01:45, 18 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the information about Synthesis, I was unaware of that policy. I also realize that, when I was trying to provide background to the need for the PMPF, I got a little off-topic. Maybe you could help me understand what the problem with original research was, though. Was it just related to the synthesis and off-topic tags? I have been looking through other related topics as well and, if I am going to contribute more, I want to make sure I do it correctly so others don't need to correct my mistakes. International Crimes Tribunal (Bangladesh)

[edit]

Hi. you commented on the RFC on this talk page, you mentioned problems with the draft I wrote in userspace, would you let me know what these are please on the talk of the draft[4], I always like feedback and try to improve my editing based on it. Thank you. Darkness Shines (talk) 20:00, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Of course. I'll take a deeper look in the next few days and share some specifics. Dreambeaver(talk) 21:38, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Dreambeaver, You'd recommended that the ICTB page be improved "starting with the current pages and dealing with specific changes you want to make here on the talk page." Unfortunately, Darkness Shines has unilaterally rewritten the entire page--behavior that had previously lead to this page being blocked from editing [5]--without raising any of these issues in the talk page as you had recommended. I think what you recommend is the only way to proceed on such a contentious topic as this. I'm going to complain to Bbb23, the administrator who had previously dealt with DS's infractions, in the hope that he might assess the situation. DS's contributions to this page have been very contentious, and many editors have taken issue with them. He has also proved quite fractious in his dealing with those who disagree with his POV. If you'd like examples, I will furnish them. I'm going to request Bbb23 to comment on the situation. Thanks! Aminul802 (talk) 03:04, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Aminu1802. I'd say there is some sort of silver lining to be found with the page being blocked; particularly, it will force talk page collaboration. I'd be happy to help out section by section with the hope that some of these problems can be diplomatically resolved before the page can be edited again. I don't really deal as much with admin intervention, so I'll stay out of that unless there is a thread that desperately needs more commentary. Dreambeaver(talk) 21:38, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dreambeaver,

I hope you're keeping well. I was wondering if I could request your input on this page where User:Freemesm appears to be engaging in a small edit war with me. Disagreeing strongly with is reasons for undoing my edits, I was tempted simply to undo his, but thought it would be more constructive to ask a fellow editor to have a look.

To my mind, this editor tends to be highly critical of any material that is unfavorable toward the tribunal. His POV may be discerned here: [6]. Recently, after a brief edit war after which I stood down, we exchanged the following: [7]. You can view the history of this article to see that what I consider his POV appears to have blinded him to even edits of mine that cannot be seen to have any POV content whatsoever. I speaking of his editing my spelling correction here: [8]. His own views on the tribunal strike me as distinctly partisan, as can be found on the ICTB's talk page here: [9] and elsewhere on the same page and its archives. I believe my edits are relevant to the BLP in question, and are based on respectable sources. Your comment would be much appreciated.

Many thanks!

Aminul802 (talk) 03:54, 12 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Mr. Aminul802, what have I done, you may first discuss with me at that article's talk page. There I replied your point. What have I done, everything were explain in history page. What have I done, is undoing your those entries, which was not according to wiki manner. In this specific article you are trying to put criticism of ICTB. You can't use wikipedia to spread criticism of any organization. Moreover this article is very tiny article and has lack of reference. You can't put criticism of ICTB irreverently. I'm apologies for undoing your spelling correction mistakenly. Actually before spelling correction you put those ICTB criticism. I'm trying to undoing those. You could notice me that.
Dear Dreambeaver, I'm also requesting you to check that article. If I've done any mistake, please notice in talk page. Actually I'm trying to make this article according to POV rule. I dont want to say anything about Mr. Aminul. Just check his contribution list, you will get what is trying to do in wikipedia. Thank you.--Freemesm (talk) 13:33, 12 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A comment about your SPI request (FergusM1970)

[edit]

Hi. Regarding your SPI request (Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/FergusM1970), the policy says that an SPI request needs to contain diffs — a minimum of one diff for the alleged sockmaster and one diff for each alleged sockpuppet. I know, in this case, it's really obvious which edits are being referred to (since the two alleged sockpuppets have made only one edit each, and the alleged sockmaster's edit is his most recent contribution so far). It's possible, though, that others working at SPI might decide to overrule my leniency and reject your request for lack of formal diffs. If you have a chance, it couldn't hurt if you could add diffs, just for the sake of dotting the I's and crossing the T's. — Richwales (no relation to Jimbo) 04:58, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Now semi'd. You have until May 15 to get it up to speed without the disruptive IPs. Please make sure you incorporate their material as well, as much as possible. They might be disruptive, but that doesn't mean their contributions are useless. Cheers! §FreeRangeFrogcroak 19:27, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. And of course -- I've been working on incorporating their material properly (it really has just come down to a case of undue weight when they make additions). The only problems have really just come with their effort towards making "controversies" out of nothing and changing up the format from a standard, easy-to-follow look. I guess it's all things that are expected for a head of state's article. Dreambeaver(talk) 17:26, 16 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for giving a start to the arrests section. Olson barely covers that, so it's the part I know the least about. I probably won't be on enough this weekend to do any serious work but I'm hoping to finish the History section Monday-Tuesday and start on the Reactions/Evaluation/Analysis section immediately after. -- Khazar2 (talk) 01:57, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's my pleasure. I've been interested in reading up on that so it's nice to contribute. I'll be working on that again going forward and can add more soon. Dreambeaver(talk) 14:17, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I went ahead and moved the draft into article space today; it's still not perfect, but it seemed like it had reached the point where it was better than what was there. I think it's close to ready for Good Article status, too. I know we still don't have all the arrests and trials in there, but we do cover arrests and trials as a "broad aspect", which is all that GA status requires.
I figure I'll give it about a week to make sure nobody objects to the new draft, double-check it one last time, and then nominate. It'll probably be a month or two before anybody reviews it anyway, so obviously we can keep tinkering. That sound okay to you? -- Khazar2 (talk) 01:26, 8 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of AVAIndia

[edit]

Hello Dreambeaver,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged AVAIndia for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Σσς(Sigma) 06:04, 7 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi
I think your were right in nominating that page for speedy deletion. I don't have enough information to expand the article at the moment. When I do, I can revive the page, so it's okay.
Thanks for taking the time to explain yourself.

Two Tym Rivers

[edit]

Hello Dreambeaver! I noticed that you recently made some updates to Tym River, but I'm afraid that most of your edits are actually pertinent to Tym River, Sakhalin, which already has most of this information. That, in addition to the lack of sources, has caused me to revert your edit - sorry, I have every reason to think it was in good faith! However, if you can find a source to support it, your information on fish and poaching would be a valuable addition to Tym River, Sakhalin. Message me if you'd like to talk further.

Riverhugger (talk) 18:58, 3 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi
I think you were right in reverting my edits. I did have sources, but I couldn't cite them. Some problem with the page I think.
Thanks

Defaultsort

[edit]

DEFAULTSORT goes before the categories. Only the 26-letter English alphabet... no accent or ligature words. Be careful of names. Some Asian names, such as Lý Tòng Bá, has a DEFAULRTSORT of: Ly, Tong Ba. Ly is the surname. Spanish names have two surnames. All the grizzly details are in WP:NAMESORT. The article Medicine Baba has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

I'm not sure if this can be fleshed out to a better quality article.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Brewers Association of Maryland requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. KJ click here 15:20, 6 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If you think this organization is significant, and preferably notable, the article can be recreated with a clear indication of why it is significant, and if possible, cited references that establish its notability. DES (talk) 18:05, 6 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Celtis conferta, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Australasian (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. User:Dr. Blofeld has created Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/Contests. The idea is to run a series of contests/editathons focusing on each region of Africa. He has spoken to Wikimedia about it and $1000-1500 is possible for prize money. As someone who has previously expressed interest in African topics, would you be interested in contributing to one or assisting draw up core article/missing article lists? He says he's thinking of North Africa for an inaugural one in October. Your input is requested about an RFC regarding Donald Trump. Here is a link directly to that RFC. The lead of that biography currently says, "Many of his statements in interviews, on Twitter, and at campaign rallies have been controversial." Invite to the African Destubathon

[edit]

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most geography, wildlife and women articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing, whether it's a river in Malawi, a Nigerian footballer, or a South African civil rights activist, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. For those of you who signed up to the North African contest, that will hopefully be held in the new year. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:11, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Requests for uncreated articles

[edit]

Greetings & a great weekend to you all. I believe it would be great if the (Requests for uncreated articles) section in our wiki project can be attended to & at least one article be created this weekend as some requests have been pending since 2016. I believe this would be pivotal to the encyclopedia as a whole & a means to get editors who have gone inactive to revive their Wikipedia activities. Sent by Celestina007. You've been unsubscribed from the Feedback Request Service

[edit]

Hi Dreambeaver! You're receiving this notification because you were previously subscribed to the Feedback Request Service, but you haven't made any edits to the English Wikipedia in over three years.

In order to declutter the Feedback Request Service list, and to produce a greater chance of active users being randomly selected to receive invitations to contribute, you've been unsubscribed, along with all other users who have made no edits in three years or more.

You do not need to do anything about this - if you are happy to not receive Feedback Request Service messages, thank you very much for your contributions in the past, and this will be the last you hear from the service. If, however, you would like to resubscribe yourself, you can follow the below instructions to do so:

  1. Go to the Feedback Request Service page.
  2. Decide which categories are of interest to you, under the RfC and/or GA headings.
  3. Paste {{Frs user|{{subst:currentuser}}|limit}} underneath the relevant heading(s), where limit is the maximum number of requests you wish to receive for that category per month.
  4. Publish the page.

If you've just come back after a wikibreak and are seeing this message, welcome back! You can follow the above instructions to re-activate your subscription. Likewise, if this is an alternate account, please consider subscribing your main account in much the same way.

Note that if you had a rename and left your old name on the FRS page, you may be receiving this message. If so, make sure your new account name is on the FRS list instead.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask on the Feedback Request Service talk page, or on the Feedback Request Service bot's operator's talk page. Thank you! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:26, 27 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Welcoming New Volunteers

Welcoming New Volunteers
(25/06/2021)

We hereby want to officially welcome new volunteers who have recently joined the collaborative project and have volunteered to work in WP:NIGERIA. The arrival of new volunteers is often associated with the confusion of “what to do” on their part, it is then behoove of us to treat them with care, guide them, and protect them from the general pitfalls a new editor would most usually fall into. We are also admonished to clean up after them if they err and encourage them, most especially when they are genuine editors with potential to do good work not just for us, but for the community as a whole. Once more, we hereby thank all new editors who have volunteered to work here and hope they enjoy their stay here.

Requests for uncreated articles
(24/1/2020)
Greetings & a great weekend to you all. It would be great if the (Requests for uncreated articles) section in our wiki project can be attended to & at least one article be created this weekend as some requests have been pending since 2016. I believe this would be pivotal to the encyclopedia as a whole & a means to get editors who have gone inactive to revive their Wikipedia activities.
