User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:60.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/60.0

Steps to reproduce:

Thunderbird 68.5.0 64bit under MATE Desktop 1.20:

  • Open a Samba network share in file manager (e.g. smb://nas/public)
  • Create a new email in Thunderbird
  • Drag and drop a file from the network share to the email (e.g. thefile.ext)

Actual results:

The file gets attached as "smb://nas/public/thefile.ext" and when you send the email, the receiver gets "smb://nas/public/thefile.ext" as file name, too

Expected results:

The file should be attached just as "thefile.ext"

Did it behave differently in previous version? 60?

Still happening on Thunderbird 68.11.0... I was wondering, is there a way to "intercept" when an attachment gets added to an email and rename it? Should I write a plugin?

On Thunderbird 78.3.1 things are even worse... Trying to drop a Samba-shared file inside the attachments portion of an email results in NO file attached, should I open another issue?

No need to file another bug.

Reporter,

When you drag and drop your attachment from CIFS/SMB mount, do you get an error in the error console?
Tool -> development tool -> error console.

(I am sorry that I am using a Japanese locale version of TB and so the menu item string may not be exactly the same in the above, but you will get the idea.)

No error in the error console, tried versions 68.12.0 and 78.5.0
