User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:91.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/91.0
Steps to reproduce:
Whenever I connect to a wifi with a captive portal, Thunderbird pops up 10 certificate error alerts and asks me whether I want to accept the invalid cert.
Instead, it should do what firefox does, namely understand that this is a capitive portal which has to be unblocked.

Johannes, please try this:
≡ > Preferences > General > [Config Editor…]
- Set the preference
network.captive-portal-service.enabled
to true
Does that help?

Magnus, any reason for Thunderbird to default network.captive-portal-service.enabled
to false? (FF defaults to true)

Maybe because we'd need something like mozilla/browser/base/content/browser-captivePortal.js?

Indeed, it wouldn't work without code to handle it.

I don't propose that Thunderbird should handle unlocking the captive portal, but those alerts are a nuissance. That is, the alerts you get when it is trying to reach the CalDAV/CardDAV server and instead, only gets a response by the captive portal.

Probably not everybody's scenario, but annoying when it does happen... P3/S3.

Rarely as it might happen if you're home, it is utterly confusing when it does happen. I don't think regular users will know what is happening, nor what to do, and adding blanket security exceptions is quite risky. Just hit this when changing my router, so for a short time while TB was running, there was no internet as the new router didn't have the DSL access data yet. These are just 3 out of a good dozen of same alerts.
