When i select Tools / Password Manager / Log Out this function does not affect
mail (IMAP) sessions.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. open mail & newsgroups window
2. log in to imap server
3. try to log out

Actual Results:  
can still access email folders residing on the imap server.

Expected Results:  
should ask to authenticate after logging out.

probably never implemented - I assume a notification gets sent out from the
password manager?

I don't see any documentation that Log Out for password manager was suppose to
Log Out of email accounts.  Jennifer do you know if this was suppose to be
implemented for mail?

"Log out" currently does this = It logs you out from the password manager which
means that you must reenter the master-password (if enabled)

It doesn't logout from Http pages with basic auth or Mail Accounts.

after reading the documentation it seems that i misunderstood what log out was
supposed to do which probably makes this report obsolete.

this is more of a feature request now but  for a web software developer http
basic authentication logout would be a very useful feature because now when i
want to change the user account with which i'm logged in to an application i'm
developing i have to exit and restart Mozilla which can be quite tedious when
you have to do it many times per day. the same applies to missing imap server
log out functionality.

Thanks all for the info.  RFE bug is 53488, marking this a dup of that bug since
it's an enhancement request  instead of a non-working menu item bug

I'm going to reopen this one and make it depend on bug 53488 instead of being a
duplicate. As written 53488 is about IMAP, and perhaps there is specific IMAP
"logging out" stuff that would have to happen. This one has a But in general,
once mailnews grabs a password -- POP, IMAP, news -- it remembers it until the
app shuts down.

I'm not sure the original password manager "log out" button is the best way, the
user might not even save their password and those users might be even more
concerned about the ability to log out. Plus that menu item doesn't appear in
the mailnews Tool menu, you'd have to dig into prefs.

This is probably less of a concern in Thunderbird -- OK, just shut down if
you're not using it. But in the app suite you might have running chatzilla
sessions or browser research open that would make shutting down inconvenient.

Another example: my ISP gives different levels of access to news depending on
the username/password used. If I use the regular account (so my kids don't have
access to adult content) and want to get something from one of the binary groups
I have to shut down the suite. And then remember to shut down again when I'm done.

is bug 234919 a dupe?

I understand the bug is an enhancement by normal standards, but given it's a security issue I'm surprised it's stuck with that level of severity.
