Bobcat

edit

I am writing regarding the picture you have placed in Commons - http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Bobcat2.jpg . We, with our friends from the Otryt Association (connected with the Bieszczady mountains), have decided to trace and mark the first in the Ukrainian Bieszczady didactic route (historical-natural scientific). We have been preparing it with the Ukrainians from Old Sambor, in which neighborhood the route is going to be placed. The route consists of ten boards, some of which are devoted to fauna and flora of the Bieszczady. We would like to use your graphics mentioned above on one of the boards. Of course, we will give information about your authorship.

And I have some request - is it possible sending me this photo in higher resolution (900x900 or 1200x1200)?

I look forward to hearing from you in the nearest future.

Please, answer by e-mail (patryk HERE-SIGN-"AT" samorzad.uw.edu.pl) or my discussion page (http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyskusja_Wikipedysty:Avadoro).

Best regards

Hi Calibas, thank you for your comment to my picture on the QI Page.

But could you explain what your sentence means: "...some tweaking of the levels might soften up the lighting..." ? I really have no idea, but I'm very interested in everything that might help to make my pictures better. Talking about pictures in English is nothing that I do very often, so I'd be thankful for a easy explaination. :-)

And now to something completely different: Is your picture of the night heron taken with your Canon 70-300 mm lens? I'm looking for a lens at the moment, and it seems that I will make my decision between this one and the 70-200 mm 1:4 L. The 70-200mm is said to show more sharpness, but I really like your picture, it seems very sharp to me. --Flicka 18:39, 19 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your kindness. I’m new in Commons. The edition you made on my photo is great. The problem is that in my wiki I’ve been told that I had to upload the file with a small size and this way it’ll lose most of its quality. That’s the reason why I would like to give it a try by myself and apply the program you told me about on the original picture to see what results can I get.   new version by me Could I submit the rejected picture once it’s fixed?? And the Church of Cambre, can I upload a new better version? And if I can’t make it better as much as you could, could I upload the improved version made by you? How should I do in each case? Finally, I would like to tell you that I took a look at your photo gallery and I would love to learn from you, you are an amazing photographer. Hi, while browsing some of your beautiful photos, I noticed you have added several plant and animal species to species specific dead-link categories (like your two recent QIS). Thanks for taking the time of working on my image on the Annakirche:   In short, you are 100% right. I realize my image is boring flat. Do you have any rule of thumb you can provide me with?

Hi Calibas, I am working on a Valuable Image (VI) Proposal in my sandbox. I noticed your recent discussion at COM:QIC and i would like to hear your opinion about the idea? I thought of posting it on COM:VP once it has been fine-tuned a little. I am not a native writer and I think the language/formulations can be improved here and there feel free to do so if you like. Secondly, I am a real idiot at writing something in a clear, short and concise form. Hi Calibas. On Commons:Featured_picture_candidates you wrote that you saw File:Rome - Vatican Museum - Spiral Staircase by Giuseppe Momo - 0673.jpg on reddit. Would you have a URL for me, so I can see it too? I'm definitely interested when my pictures are used. Thnx in advance! -- NormanB (talk) 10:58, 16 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Notification about possible deletion

edit

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Thank You for the Wikipedia Picture

edit

Hello, My name is Duane Hurst and I recently made a free (non-commercial) English web site to share information with people. I added links to your Wikipedia/Wikimedia freeware picture. I also gave credit to you on my web pages for your work. Thank you for sharing with the public. My website is:

http://www.freeenglishsite.com/

I add pictures such as yours to one of the following major sections of my site: 1. World section - contains information and over 10,000 images of every world country and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/index.htm

2. USA section - contains information and images of every USA state and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/usa/index.htm

3. English section - "Mel and Wes" lessons in conversation format. Stories are located in various USA states and world countries such as China, England, Germany, Japan, Mexico and Thailand. Each lesson has many slang terms and idioms, which I link to my Slang Dictionary. This eventually will have over 5,000 terms. Currently, it has about 3,000 slang and idioms. I regularly add new lessons and slang terms. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/lessons/index.htm Slang Dictionary link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/slang/Eslang_a.htm

Prior to retirement, I taught English at several private and public universities in the United States.

Please share this free site with your friends. I hope all will enjoy the pictures and find the English information useful. Sincerely,  Duane Hurst in Utah, USA

Photo use

edit

I am working with the Forest Service at the Spring Mountains NRA on their new interpretive center in Kyle Canyon. The new center will include several interpretive exhibits that aim to help visitors better understand the interconnected ecosystems of the Spring Mountains, and the role they play as stewards of this special place.

We came across your wonderful California King snake photo on Creative Commons and would like to incorporate it into the interpretive exhibits. I would just like to confirm your CC license that this is free for the Forest Service to use in their exhibits and that it should be attributed to "Calibas".

We are very grateful for your contribution to this project and hope that your image will help to inspire visitors to take a closer look at the incredible plants and animals around them. Please contact me at kdaley@aldrichpears.com thank you

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2015 is open!

edit

You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2015 Picture of the Year contest.

Dear Calibas,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2015 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the tenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2015) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1322 candidate images. There are 56 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top #1 and #2 from each sub-category. In the final round, you may vote for just one or maximal three image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 28 May 2016, 23:59:59 UTC.
