What is the difference between Category:Frontyards and Category:Front gardens? Can both get clear descriptions showing the differences OR can both categories be merged? JopkeB (talk) 05:59, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like both terms are synonymous, given the terms "yard" and "garden" are doublets in English. We have Category:Backyards, but not Category:Back gardens. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 16:23, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
However, according to Wikidata, a frontyard is a "portion of land between the street and the front of the house". So a "front garden" should be a frontyard as well as a garden. My house has a frontyard, which is not a front garden but paved with cobblestones. Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 16:27, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Sb1413, for your research. So now we have:
  1. Both categories should stay because they are about different concepts.
  2. They need descriptions to point out the difference. My proposal:
    1. Frontyard = Portion of land between the street and the front of the house. It may be just paved or have plants as well.
    2. Front garden = A frontyard with plants.
  3. Front gardens should be a subcategory of Frontyards.
Do you agree? JopkeB (talk) 03:09, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree Sbb1413 (he) (talkcontribs) 03:21, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll wait another two weeks to see whether there are other opinions and if not, then I'll close this discussion and implement the proposal. JopkeB (talk) 03:48, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
