No licence and no evidence that the photo is Public domain as claimed. The source given [1] states that the photo is from H. King, Sopwith Aircraft 1912–1920, which was published in 1981. There is no evidence that it was published prior to 1923 (required to use PD-US-1923), was a British official work (required for PD-UKgov), that it is the work of an unknown author and was published prior to 1943 (required for PD-UK-unknown) or that the author died before 1926 (required to use pd-old-auto and be compliant with URAA). The assertion that is possibly British Official, is without further evidence, not good enough. Nigel Ish (talk) 16:31, 30 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Does anyone here have a copy of the H. F. King book to establish what the photocredit is?81.149.141.199 19:36, 4 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Nigel, did you check the photocredit in the book before reaching your conclusion above? If yes, what did it say?Rstory (talk) 07:56, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No, I havn't seen the original of the King book - merely that it is quoted as the source of the photo from the Russian website - which doesn't state whether or not the photo is official, or whether it was first published before 1943. I've searched the archives of Flight international, and while there are "British Official" photos of the Fury (using the unoffical name of Porte Super Baby)- see here - they don't include the photo in question.Nigel Ish (talk) 14:02, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, hopefully a reader might come up with the answer, but I recall H. F. King was born 1915; in my opinion it is unlikely King took the photo in a govt research establishment and he would be about three years old at the time - best I can do for the moment.Rstory (talk) 08:40, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Unlike Flight the book does not carry specific credits for the images however, photographs of the Fury I have seen where it is possible to view the reverse side are stamped RAF Felixstowe Photo Unit and in this case the photograph features Porte himself. The book is copyright H. F. King 1980.80.229.34.113 16:47, 8 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Are we any closer?Rstory (talk) 09:28, 9 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
