Drawings by children are just as much protected by copyright as had they been created by adults.

Comment Close this deletion request and attack images individually if its felt they are not properly licensed. The image that brought me here is properly licensed and can stay. I'm guessing there are more. As far as a minor's ability to copyright work, I found this. Hardly clears up the issue, but I cannot imagine any sensible person suggesting a 4 year old has to give his personal permission before his mommy can upload one of his sketches to Wikipedia. File:X-Row_Map.jpg is an acurate map of de:Zugersee, de:Immensee and de:Vierwaldstättersee. The towns of Luzern, Küsnacht and Zug are placed properly. Therfore I don't think a child has drawn this map. --DF5GO 00:52, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Keep all, as having no apparent deletion reason unless otherwise shown; or close discussion and re-nominate as individual files or more specific groups. What a mess! The nominator seems to have nominated an entire category without any regard for actual licensing. Just about every different type of permission on Commons is represented in this set of files. Here are just a few of the dispositions I found, each of which are different issues for different discussions:
1. Files in which the drawings could be arguably de minimis if not separated out (File:2012 'Tag der offenen Werft' - ZSG Werft Wollishofen 2012-03-24 13-41-40.JPG)
2. Files that clearly appear to be properly sourced and released on behalf of the child by the child's parent/legal guardian (File:Aftertherain.jpg — "Child's drawing (my daughter Émilie) at 7 years old.")
3. Files which it is also likely (though possibly disputable) that the uploader has permission to redistribute the child's work (File:Art Gabrielle 6 soon.jpg, presumably uploaded by the author's grandmother or other adult relative)
4. Files in which permission might be clarified easily by asking about the relationship between the uploader and author (File:ArtChild12Slovakia.jpg)
5. Files that seem likely (but not certain) to be released and uploaded on behalf of the child by the child's parent/guardian (File:Blackboard 04143.jpg, with same surname for the author and uploader)
6. Files that seem likely to be uploaders' own works during childhood (File:Barnteckning.jpg; File:Blotter explosion-spin art.jpg from Flickr description)
7. Files of unclear permission except for the boilerplate text in the licensing (File:Birdtrap.png)
8. Files that appear to make confused/false copyright claims the deletion nominator may have been thinking of (File:Child art, mom.jpg)
9. Files that might be public domain for being first published in the U.S. prior to 1989 without copyright or first published in the U.S. prior to 1923 (File:Child's drawing of the Clarence White family-1911.jpg)
10. Files that appear to be from research about children but do not make clear whether the illustrations were work for hire or only fair use (File:ChildrenPerceptionBiomass.jpg)
11. Files that seem to be the uploaders' own works during adulthood and are just miscategorized on Commons (File:ChildrenPerceptionBiomass.jpg)
12. Files of works far too old to reasonably be presumed to be under copyright (File:Ernst Ludwig Kirchner Eisenbahnzug.jpg from 1884)
13. A child holding, explicitly for U.S. military photographers, his own drawing that seems to have been commissioned for a U.S. government (military) event (File:Proud to Be Part of a Military Family artist.jpg)
14. Files explicitly credited as colored for Wikipedia/Commons use (File:Rameses II. Returning in triumph from Syria..png and most other colorings by Chuck Marean (talk · contribs))

And I mostly quit looking after the letter F! Do we really need to go through every one of these files to save them from being deleted by this mass nomination? Also, I caught File:Proud to Be Part of a Military Family artist.jpg as having a speedy tag added for no apparent reason other than the one given in this nomination also. Someone may need to check the speedy tags by 1Veertje (talk · contribs) to make sure that valid files don't get speedy-deleted despite being declared kept by discussion here. --Closeapple (talk) 02:08, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Keep all. Indiscriminate nomination of an entire category helps no one. This reminds me of Commons:Categories for discussion/2011/01/Category:Buildings in Russia. Keep It is likely that some of these are improperly licensed, but since they are from many different sources, it is impossible to have an intelligent discussion here. Keep (Added heading). Some of the files have a statement saying it was uploaded by one of the parents. For example File:Tegning-solbriller.png that says "Mathias Isidor Andersen - uploaderens mindreårige søn - son of uploader (Hansjorn at da.wikipedia)". If the son is under age it should be ok that one of the parents upload the file. Some of the files are probably unusable others may have copyright problems. The X-Row Map is completly my work. I'am not a good drawer! So the reason for a delet is not correct. I know that this image is bad, but it's correct. I respect the copyright rules, so I don´t have copy a map out of google or something else. Keep Keep because maybe they were donated by children. Maybe their licenses are in order in some other way. Oppose I don't think such a deletion discussion for the contents of a whole category that has been filled from multiple sources makes sense. Comment: Probably not a copyvio. The artist has the same surname as the photographer/uploader, who is a long-time contributor on Commons. I'd guess that User:Doko would be able to confirm whether he's the artist's legal guardian, and/or is close enough to this artist to submit COM:OTRS from whoever speaks for this child. --Closeapple (talk) 00:17, 17 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
