Title |
Medieval T-shaped single-looped buckle |
||
Description |
English: A flat cast copper-alloy open, medieval T-shaped buckle. The 'T' terminates with a transverse ridged moulding on the upper surface and sides, and loop (9.25mm in width) and now incomplete following an old break. There is a pin hinged within the narrower element (7.65mm in width) of the 'T' held in place by a rivet through the frame of the buckle at a point slightly thickened for the purpose. There is also a transverse grooved pin rest on the outer edge, opposite. The pin is 22.4mm in length. The buckle has a dark-brown colour with flecks of off-white and green corrosion product. A comparable, although not identical, buckle can be found illustrated in Whitehead (1996, 34; ref. 191). |
